Little Jimmy noticed that there were no good games coming out for his Nintendo 64, and his PC was not really powerful enough to play any of the latest titles. He had a been a Nintendo fan all his life, but when he had that the GameCube wasn't going to be out until after Christmas he was very disappointed. What would he do?
"But Mummy and Daddy, there's nothing for me to have!"
Little Jimmy's parents' faces lit up in glee, and his father said, "Well, that's okay son. More money for us."
Little Jimmy tugged on his father's shirt, "But Daddy, I do want presents! I'm sure I can think if something!"
His father cursed, but his mother scolded his father and told him to go and clean the car. Little Jimmy's father muttered something about annoying, money-wasting kids on his way out.
Little Jimmy's mother knelt down, held his hands and said, "Don't worry dear, we'll go to the shops now and see what we can find."
So off went Little Jimmy and his mother, for a long look at all the latest toys and games in the winter cold. They went through all the video game stores, and all the general toy shops, and were seemingly doomed to failure.
"Oh dear darling...I think there's only one thing for it."
"What's that mummy?" Little Jimmy asked hopefully.
"We're going to have to buy you a PlayStation 2." She said, a smile on her face.
"But mummy!! There's no Mario on PS2!"
"Don't be silly Jimmy. The PlayStation 2 has lots of good games coming out this Christmas, including WWF SmackDown Just Bring It, Max Payne, Airblade, SSX Tricky, Jak and Daxter and there's already many a top title out there, such as Gran Turismo 3 and Grand Theft Auto 3."
Little Jimmy's red-cheeked face began to glow, "Actually mummy, the PS2 does sound really great." He smiled widely, "I would love one of them for Christmas."
Little Jimmy's mother laughed, "Oh, of course dear! After all, it is only £200, and you get a DVD player as well!"
"Wow!" Little Jimmy said, his eyes gleaming.
But all of a sudden, Little Jimmy remembered the GameCube. "But Mummy, what about a GameCube? That has lots of good games too."
"Very true dear, but I expect you'll be too busy playing all your PS2 games to get one of those. But if you really want to, we can leave the PS2 for now, and use your christmas money for when the GC comes out...whenever that'll be."
Little Jimmy thought for a moment. "No mummy, I'd like a PS2."
"Then lets go and buy one, darling."
Little Jimmy jumped in joy, "It's going to be the best Christmas ever!"

What is the message to my little fable? Well, it seems to me as though Sony have Christmas under their belts. With no healthy competion, and at least 10 brilliant titles making their way to the black box of wonders, what can stop them?
Another Christmas is down the drain for Nintendo, apart from the offer of the GBA. Although, the GBA is completely different from the PS2, and the prices are a little bit of a rip-off too. I think Nintendo made a mistake in not releasing the GameCube earlier, as my story shows, parents are going to look for what's hot on the market, and they're going to see the PS2. I get the feeling that a lot of the space under all the Christmas trees this year is going to be taken up by Sony products, but mainly, the PlayStation 2.
Well, I'm certainly looking forward to this Christmas, as I'm sure all of my fellow PS2 owners are as well. Enjoy this one guys, it's going to be one of the best ever.
Thanks for reading, Ant.
PS-Always remember though, Christmas isn't just about presents and sweets. But you can still have lots of them. {:)
The gamecube is technically superior but isnt out and will have limited games for the first six months and does not have a DVD built in but will be £200 (probably)
The Xbox is far superiour technically but is not available and will cost £300 (probably) and is produced by Microsoft *boo hiss we ferking hate you*. May outperform rivals but remember the Skoda outperforms all its rivals but who actually buys them?
At the end of the day the Playstation broke the barrier of the kids toy mentallity and suddenly made it a twenty something lifestyle accessory. It has done far better than the original did at first and generally whoever leads from the front sets the pace.
Who cares what little Johny gets for Christmas as the PS2 aint for kids its for layabout clubbers and dissfunctional twenty somethings. In other words ME
I think that might be me in a few months. GC isn't coming out for another 5+ Months and by then everyone will have a PS2 exactly what happened with the PSX. Everyone one had one, then Nintendo released N64, Yea it was good, thats why I have one but not many people bought it :o(
PS2 has a dvd player and its only 200 quid, so that means, that when GC is 150 quid you will try to have to find a DVD player for 50 quid. And that, is not going to happen.
