Soothes the soul, lifts the spirit and ain't nothing comes close to when you're playing along and realise that these are the moments you will look back on when you're old.
We started work on 2 new songs tonight.
Just the basic guitar and vocals so far, we all sit there and listen for an hour, trying out different things until it clicks and you're all "Yessssssssssss".
And these are stonkers of songs. Those of you coming to see us play at Sound Republic next Thursday (Trevor Nelson DJing) will hear them.
------
1st one is basically acoustic guitar, bass with bongos, marimbas, dobros and percussive instruments.
Closest thing I can think of to give you an idea?
"Save me" by Embrace or "Cloud Nine" by The Temptations.
It's pretty obvious what it's about, so all I can say is that this song is for when you are with that one person that makes the world mean something to you.
Someone that can make all the hurt go away and make you smile and feel like someone special.
"No Good Reason"
Whatever reason that you're grieving
Whatever reason that you're leaving
Come right back and ease in
For no reasons
You're beautiful to me
Whenever your high think of the lows
Whenever your dry something's ready to flow
And for no good reason
For no reasons
You're beautiful to me
Don't even know the explanation
Don't even know the reason why
You're beautiful to me
There's no reason in this rhyming
Must be a reason my sun's still shining
Might in fact the reason,
For no reasons be
You're beautiful to me?
Beautiful to me
Beautiful to me
For no reason
You're beautiful to me
----
The 2nd one is a lot darker, the flip side of the above song.
When someone is so totally devoted to you that they are willing to debase themself to please you.
"Untitled so far"
I know where I can find you
Waiting there just for me
Did you know you were happy
Did it show?
So slip into something a little more comfy for me
Cut your hair if you want to
Can you wear this for me?
Could you be with another just for me?
Never say never
It might not be things that you mean
Now I'm looking for something
Looking out for you
Aiming to please when you fall to your kness
You're asking me "What I should do?"
Make your bed if you want to
Can you tick just for me?
Would you know if your love will ever grow?
Pick up the pieces put them together for me
Now I'm looking for something
Looking out for you
Aiming to please when you fall to your kness
You're asking me "What I should do?"
I know where I can find you
Waiting there just for me
----------
Just words on a screen for everyone else, but to me they are a reminder of why I put up with a job that requires nothing and all other manner of noise that fills me up during the day.
Because when I get in a room with my boys, we create something that changes our world for a moment.
Be it in a smelly rehearsal studio in Chelmsford or playing in front of 300+ people, for however long we are doing it?
We are so far removed from the hassles and stress of everyday life, we are making something that makes people smile, singalong and for that gig, makes them forget about other stuff as well.
Sorry, I know I go on and on but I am so caught up that tonight I didn't worry about anything else but 3 other blokes pulling notes from the air and turning them into something special, if only to us.
And when we make it (and I have unshakeable faith we will), it wont be "Look at me, big rock star", it will be "this is amazing, perfect and beautiful. This is what I am on this planet for and I love every single second I do this".
Cheers for letting me babble, I'm off for a bath now.
:0)
