This movie is from the makers of the hit comedy, ìThereís Something About Mary,î and as usual, a silly but almost believable plot is brought forward. Charlie Baileygates is a 17-year veteran of the Rhode Island Police Force. He is a loving father to 3 sons, (although perhaps technically not his own,) and is a very well-mannered man-always willing to help out. Unfortunately, ever since his marriage broke off thanks to rather hilarious circumstances, he has been disrespected by everyone around him, apart from his teenage sons. They take advantage of him being so kind and nice all the time, by never showing any manners to him, and never doing him any favours.
Charlie tries to cope with this, but one day it all comes out. In the form of an alter-ego, by the name of Hank. Charlie is given medication, but when Irene Waters comes along, needing his help, he leaves his medication at a hotel.
As Charlie/Hank and Irene travel across America (I wonít tell you why, as it will ruin the plot,) they come across many strange, and some not so strange situations. Cows lying in the road, gangs of men dropping cigarettes and faulty vending machines included. As always, there are times when Charlie feels annoyed and angry, and this is when Hank makes his appearances. The loud-mouthed, insulting, sarcastic and aggressive version of Charlie, and sometimes this leads to some rather painful times for the both of them. Of course though, itís extremely funny for us. Charlie and Hank both fall in love with Irene, and the two ëmení must fight each other for her affection.
Jim Carrey has now proved himself as one of the best actors in the world. There are parts of the movie where Charlie and Hank fight for control of the body, and the way he switches between the two personalities is amazing. Renee Zellweger, who plays Irene, also does a superb job at portraying the blond, but occasionally mouthy co-star. The 3 sons are also very funny, especially with their constant use of the wordÖwell, itís not really appropriate for these forums.
The DVD extras are superb-there are loads of deleted scenes, a directorís commentary, theatrical trailers, TV spots and even the music video to ìFoo Fighters : Breakout.î The movie itself goes on for 2 hours, so there is at least 4 hours of comedic entertainment in Me, Myself and Irene.
So you want a movie with laughs? You want a movie with stupidity? You want a movie with fantastic acting? You want a movie a schizophrenic played by Jim Carrey? Well, Me, Myself and Irene brings you all of us, and lots of it! I recommend this movie to anyone, even if you're not a comedy fan.
