I am thinking of buying a ps2 with my family as an entertainment system, not just a console device, and was wondering if it was any good. I know it is supposed to be brilliant but i need more convinving.

I cant really add anything to whats already been said - There is no better time though to buy a PS2!!
If you want an entertainment system there is no other console better to buy. In the coming weeks are some of the best games coming out along side some already class games already released.
The PS2 also plays PS1 games so there is even more games to buy.
Again, the PS2 also plays DVDs and despite what 'others' say it is good quality. There are already hundreds of films available that can be played on it. its only Region 2 though but you can buy an add on for it.
It also plays all your music CD's.

IT plays DVDs, music CDs, and games. It will soon have an internet connection either broadband or 56k, so it's got everything you could want and more.
The PS2 is a brilliant system and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise, its a great DVD player and CD player, and you are now coming to the time when all of the AAA titles are coming out , it can also play existing games that were out for the playstation, its well worth the price, which has now gone down to £199, you should order it from special reserve though as they have some great deals, there is not a better time than now to buy a PS2
