What do you think it is? Obviously there's no absolutely correct answer but it'd be interesting to hear people's views.

i`d say advertising jobs or working for one of those god-awful "heat"-type magazines "hey everyone, look how fat X and Y look this week!!" swiftly followed by "oh noes, everyone is getting too thin"

an industry built entirely upon fickle hypocracy, populated my morally bankrupt name droppers. vomit inducing.
i think my whole problem with them is not only do they tell people what to think, but an increasingly large amount of people are happy to be told, which is just self destructive from a sociological point of view.

then again, i suppose pretty much all jobs will be pointless from someones point of view.... although in my opinion the world NEEDS cartoons and video games, so i`m safe :D

Would you seriously want to buy sex toys that hadn't been tested?

"I'm sorry honey, when it said it was called the Perforator, I didn't suspect for a second it would chew straight through your vulva."

"DEAR GOD! SOMEBODY HELP MEEEEE!!! THE RUBBER ON THIS VIBRATING VAGINA IS REACTING WITH MY SEMEN TO MAKE SUPERGLUE!"

Nasty.

Any job that involves saying "Have you done any work in the last fortnight?" when your best mate is standing in front of you and you know he's earning £100 a day doing scaffolding on the side, where you turn down a pregnant teenager for a crisis loan on a Friday afternoon when at the same time there's a memo on your desk from the IT Department advising that the three million pounds recently given to a consulting firm by your employer is basically money down the drain because the new Minister for Work and Pensions has decided emphasis should be more customer-oriented rather than IT-driven, whilst at the same time you have a colleague who spends 7 hours of each workday writing a report about how many first-class, second-class and 'other' costings were tallied by the office's franking machine the previous day in an effort to keep track of and reduce costs, and the remaining 30 minutes of his workday sending Giros to himself and family members.

Yeah you say that, but it's just a shallow answer. We need people willing to do that job, in the same way people who use MacDonalds need people to work there.

Although it may not seem like a glamorous or skillful job, it's a necessary one nonetheless. A shallow profession is really one that a person is not likely to carry and/or has no real point to it.

A pornstar, for example, can be said to be pointless - however, they're liked by many. The people that like pornstars feel they're 'necessary', whether they are or not, and certain 'desires' keep them in demand. However, people in the paparazzi aren't 'needed', if all they do is take pictures of celebrities. I for one would be happy to miss out on seeing a sneak photo of.. someone.. getting out of their car.
