A Bentonville, Ark., man is seeking $20,000 from the city after his two teenage sons found a book on lesbian sex on a public library bookshelf.
He also wants the library director fired.
Earl Adams said his 14- and 16-year-old sons were "greatly disturbed" after finding the book, titled "The Whole Lesbian Sex Book." Adams said the book caused "many sleepless nights in our house."
Adams said the book is "patently offensive and lacks any artistic, literary or scientific value," according to a letter he faxed to Mayor Bob McCaslin. He said the teenagers found it while browsing for material on military academies.

Sleepless nights? lol I'll bet. Just remember to take the book back once you're finished with it. ;)
The poll has 91% saying no, they don't believe the boys were disturbed enough for $10,000 each.

And I highly doubt they stumbled upon the book when browsing for books on Military Academies... Unless perhaps the book had been placed there by mistake, in which case anyone could be to blame (staff or anyone who uses the library) so pointing the blame at the Director makes no sense.
All this righteous Christian rage is so ridiculous. Libraries are public places, there to serve everyone... If the book truly had no 'educational' merit then maybe it shouldn't have been there, but no-one forced the boys to read it.
Maybe if the father knew there was potentially 'disturbing' material in the library, he should have gone with them. I assume most libraries have some sort of Sex Education section... If he wants to shield them so much from reality, it's his job to do so, not the Libraries or the States.
Meh. Basically seems to boil down to another homophobic right-wing Christian.
Should libraries stock adult books? Probably, if they're going to stock other books too. But there should be some restrictions on who they hand them out to.
However, it's not like it's done the boys any serious harm is it?
If it happened to my kids, and I came up with some bull about how I.. I mean 'they' deserved compensation, I'd deserve to be brushed off and ignored.
Sue libraries for bogus pretence of damages - deprive the local community of $20k of library services.
Go lowlife, it's your birthday, go lowlife it's your birthday etc etc.
Speaking of which if they were looking for a book in a different catergory, why were they searching in another section like homoerotic or homosexual interest area?

I haven't re-read the article, but I'm not sure if the library actually lent the book to them did they? I don't think it explicitly said if they got the book out, or just had a gander while in the Library... It definitely said it wasn't pornographic, so I'm really not sure how bad it could've been... Surely nothing a 14/16 yr old male wouldn't be aware of from school anyway? I'm assuming the Dad doesn't home school them so he can keep that nasty theory of evolution at bay ;-)

I meant the court case. Not staring at women in general. Look, it was not meant like that! Or the other way.
