'The Others' stars Nicole Kidman and I'm afraid I don't know the names of any of the other cast. The movie is set in the 1940's in a big country house. Nicole Kidman has two children, a boy and a girl. Both of these have a condition called something like photosensitive, that means they can't be exposed to strong light, or they will come out in blisters, find it hard to breath, and eventually die. This means that the children have to be kept in relative darkness, with only gas lamps lighting the places they go. All the curtains have to be drawn when the kids are in the room.
The film starts with three servants going to the house. They are thought to be replying to a newspaper ad, but you find out that the advertisement was never sent off to the paper. The servants say they only came round on the off chance that there would be some work but there is something strange about them...
We then discover that Nicole Kidmans daughter is seeing, and talking to ghosts, and at first she doesn't believe they are real but a series of wierd events leads to her eventually searching the whole house for intruders and then hearing talking when she is the only one in the room... scarey. We also hear rumours from the kids of how one day their mother went a bit crazy, but you don't learn the truth until the end.
The movie starts off rather slow, but further in it picks up the pace, and there are quite a few scenes which will really make you jump. Despite this fact the film isn't really scarey in a horror movie kind of way, just very tense. You can tell when something is going to happen, but it still manages to make you jump.
The ending of the film has a pretty good twist that is kind of dark, but it isn't a scarey twist. You may guess the twist, but it is still a good one.
Overall a pretty good film. I went to the cinema not even knowing what kind of film it was and went out talking about it and making loads of lame ghost jokes! I'd give the film about 8 and a half out of 10.
