Personally, I feel that in arcades especially, there's a big place for these games in the gaming industry... I don't quite know when they started, but I do know that I played Konami's 'Police 24/7' in Newquay a few weeks back, and the game is amazing... basically it's like Time Crisis or Virtua Cop, except there is no 'cover' pedal - the game, when it starts, detects your position and then moves the screen according to your movements. You crouch, the camera crouches - you ARE the camera... the camera with a gun...
What was most fun about the game was the sense of 'direct involvement', which despite the quality of modern games, is quite a rarity. I've played what most would call the best games of the year, and although they're good games, you can still tell you're not really a part of it... With games like Police 24/7, that's different...
But it isn't just shooting games that make sensor games fun... it's any sort of game where you feel you're really a part of the game. Interaction is the key to the gaming industry... without it, it doesn't exist! That's a big problem with the console games of today... they might well be AAA games and they can look as realistic as they want, but they could never give you the experience that the real thing could...
I'm not saying Police 24/7 was perfect, and it didn't exactly poke you in the eye or face when you got shot, but I think that with arcade gaming it's the first of many steps that will eventually see a big increase in these types of games and how far they go to offering gamers as 'real' an experience as possible... games can 'look' as real as they want, but I think 'realism' will take on a new meaning in gaming in the not too distant future, especially in the arcades!
Thanks for reading,
Game
PS: You like the +'s in the title? - Attractive aren't they... :D
Also, any sort of pre-programmed shooter like Time Crisis II is terrible without a gun... if only Police 24/7 was ported to Gamecube with a sensor that stuck in the memory Card slot... that'd be cool!
Still...
Thanks for replying...;)
Playing any other shooter is too dull now. :0)
