Another conversion which was molested was Devil May Cry (the first game) which had ultra fat boarders. Which was a shame as it is such a good game.

It's a lot better these days - I think a lot of games come with a 60Hz mode. DMC and FFX probably set a mark in the worst conversions ever, then people started noticing how important a good conversion is.
I happen to own VF4 and yes it does support 50and 60Hz. Gota say its a GREAT game, best fighter on the PS2 by far, not as flashy as Tekken but WAY deeper and harder and ALOT more to do.
On your question, me ain't got the foggiest about the difference between conversions etc...
