Thing is, the programme made my brain hurt... by this, I mean, that watching the programme actually, physically, caused my brain pain. Anguished, writhing, pain.
I think managed to last about 3-5 minutes before turning over to another channel, any other channel, gasping with relief.
This might not seem like such an unusal emotion, I am, after all, compaired to the WWF's target audience, quite the old geezer.
Although, given the amount of stress and abuse I've put my brain through, both physical, mental and surreal, over the years, I had always assumed that, although my sanity may not recover, the brain itself could safely survive pretty much any entertainment onslaught...
Now, this post isnt to have a go at American Wresting...
I read a post, in this forum, wherein a few of the board members were discussing, what they thought to be classic cartoons, She-Ra, He-Man, Centurions, MASK, etc...
Now, the thing is, these really are god awful animated programmes. Badly written, badly animated, and created as extended adverts to manipulate children and sell a product.
However, since these are the cartoons these people remeber from their youth. They are the cartoons they remember as their classics.
Now, this post isnt about saying how kids programmes were better when I was young...
Its just it seems, as far as TV goes, people who are in their mid to late teens have been given a rough deal...
Manipulated and cohersed with mediocre TV, which have no entertainment value, never encourging them to go out and achieve anything themselves, never to aspire or to imagine, or to think as individuals, only that they conform to the masses, to be good boys and girls who will buy the lastest toy, or shoddy wrestling merchandise.
Which, I was thinking, all seems to spell a pretty gloomy future for them as individuals, as us as a country...
However, it strikes me that, historically, when people are raised in a restrictive environment, they they will, inevitably rebel against that which is the norm... e.g the 60's to the 50's, 70's Punk, etc...
Does this mean it will be the kids of today, who will be the ones to escape the uinrelenting turged quagmire of product placement suitably installed during the eighties...
Or will they be more distracted in the latest TV violence? Ensuring, of course that the theme tune is on their mobile phones, and that they have the lasest version of the averagely rated computer game?
but they are the one of the greatest things to ever come out of the
