This is sort of do to with mine and er-noís chat in his n00bs topic. Its not a copy, itsÖ not a copy :o)
We were talking about advertising and he mentioned a very very good point.

Sony, we see them everywhere, they make tellyís videoís camcorderís and consoles. We see them all over the place, they are on football ground billboards flag banners all over the god damned place!
Their new ì3rd Placeî Adverts are a tinge mad. But, if you look closely it is a very very risky advertising trick. But is worked.

An example of this is those Daz adverts, the ones with the talking dogs. Those dogs are now famous!

Those adverts are weird I mean very weird like a dog sleeping by the washing machine, you think its something do to with maybe dog food or something! But no. The dog starts having a spasm in his legs so you watch on and low and behold its something to do with the PS2!!!! Ahh! Cheeky little blighters!

I watch football, I like football, Hell if I could I would have a football sawn onto my foot! I was watching the champions league match last night and I thought Lille played well and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Scored an excellent goal. It looks like the Champions League is sponsored by the PS2 and before and in half time there is a PS2 ad. There is a desert and a blue football pitch and some blue blokes painting the pitch. W.T.F?!?!

Why the hell would that happen?! What?! Well, you silly non-using your brainís while watching adís Its simple.
They have made the adverts SO weird that you remember them, they make you talk and in the Gaming world talk is good, in fact talk is amazing.

People say

ìDid you see the advert in between the game last night?î
ìYeaî
ìIt was weird wasnít it!î
ìYou got that rightî

So you see, people talk about it. They show their parent, their parent buy a PS2 for them. OR NOT. Im not sure how seeing an advert makes you buy a PS2? How? The? Bananaís ? :o)

Now we shall go over to the Nintendo camp. (No pun intended)

Nintendo used to have a few adís out. They had some Perfect Dark adverts and quite a few GBA adís which may I ad are so well worked it makes me want to buy one! The one with the granny and she shows her leg :o)

I would like to see Nintendo maybe work on a few adís for the upcoming GameCube. We will soon see X-Boxís adverts and maybe some PS3 adís. But no. I WANT GAMECUBE ADVERTS!!!!! Do I have to go and knock on Nintendo HQ and hit someone?! Just to make them see that Sony are caning your behind through advertising!

Me and er-no thought of a really cool advert that would work!

*End of Champions League match
*Adverts

Then it comes, like the big black hole of the beneath. We thought that maybe they could have like the GC logo and it would just freeze on the screen,

Or perhaps they could have like a GC logo, and like the sound of heavy breathing and the sound of a heartbeat and it would flash between the logo and a small clip of the some upcoming games, Wave Race, Resident Evil etc etc. Then at the end of the 15 second advert they could have a little slogan saying

ìIt will be the death of youî

Then a flash and a loud flash noise and then the GC logo would appear.

*End of ad

Maybe I should send this off to Nintendo HQ perhaps? Sounds tasty.
I would just like to see maybe Nintendo trying to promote their console and their games. This is why the N64 failed er-no and me decided. No advertising.

Itís a crying shame that some games and consoles should go unnoticed. I bet every mum and dad knows about the PS2 and I bet around 1% know about the GC.

Donít spend too much time and just make adverts but now with the release date soooo far away you could just buy some people to make adverts canít you?!

So címon Nintendo, get your thumb out of your behind and start bloody making some adverts!

Does no one else have any more views on this? Considering that advertising is a big part of gaming, I think lots of you do...

Sony, the worlds leading brand of everything....well so it seems.

What don't they specialise in? They make TV's, Radios, H-Fi's, Mini-Discs, Games Consoles and loads more but I ain't going into detail now.

So when it comes to advertising does it make much difference to them? Will they ever get to the point where they say, 'We can't afford to do this anymore'? And the answer to that Bob is? No.

Nintendo, well they do one thing. Make consoles and games, ok so thats two things just be quiet. So really if the GameCube don't sell then who knows where they'll be, so advertisement might be the thing that they'll need to promote the damn thing.

Who knows? In a few months time, GasMasks ad could be on tele....

Yeah, Nintendo will advertise the Gamecube, but only when it comes out (or just before) No point in advertising this far in advance!

I always thought they should do an advert where everyday objects all go square.

Some kid eating cereal and the spoon goes cubed, a man driving to work and his car goes cube shaped, then a lady at a bar, drinking. She goes to take a sip and her glass goes cubed.

Then the words 'Have you been Cubed?' appear.

You're right that Nintendo do not advertise as much as they are capable of. They have the money, and if they want to tmake a larger inpact on the gaming market in this country they are going to have to start to bring in some advertsiements, if not, Microsoft and Sony are going to take a bit of a step forward in the sales department.

But Ninentdo have been advertising the GBA, so they are starting to get there finger out. Will they take it into effect when the Gamecube is released is another matter though. Advertising it now would be a waste of money, maybe the odd one in magazines is OK, but T.V adverts would be a waste now. Leave the adverts until a few weeks before the Gamecube is released and then advertise it like crazy before the Microsoft camp start to advertise there console.

Your Nintendo ad sounds like a good idea, but I'm afraid I really can't see Nintendo bothering to make an advert like that, which would probably take a while to make and might cost a bit of money. Well, judging by their current attitude though.

And I agree about the PS2 bit-they're so damn weird (and sometimes amusing,) that they're easy to remember. Also, with their name splashed over football stadiums and all over the TV, you can't really miss it, can you?
