Itíd be like going into a shop and choosing all your favourite foodstuffs and sticking them all in one bag. Except, in place of the food youíd have gaming characteristics. They could be divided up into 4 main sections and have loads of sub-sections. This would allow you to incorporate all your favourite aspects of a game and roll them all into one.
Like I said, there would be 4 main sections:
Graphics ñ Landscapes, Cut-scenes, atmosphere... Anything to do with the physical side of games really. It would allow you to choose your own setting from dark and dingy dungeons to chirpy and cheerful... Places :-D. The setting really decides what style of game itís going to be, is it going to be a game set in dark caves or is it going to be a game set in beautiful 3D grasslands. The setting creates the atmosphere, which is probably one of the most important part of the game. Cut-scenes... If there are any, if so where and what form they come in (FMV, MPEG etc)
In this part you could also choose what the graphics actually are going to look like. Will you spend more on the gameplay, more on the graphics or equal on both?
Gameplay ñ THE most important part. Characters story line, genre and lastability. In game objects... Anything at all that contributes to the story of the game. Youíd have to pick the genre which is the most vital, be it FPS, RPG, Strategy, shoot-em-up etc etc. Characters again are very important, are you going to have very few and create a mysterious aura about them, or are you going to only have a view but give a very detailed history of them? The choice is yours! And then the story-line, is it going to be the good olí Goodies V Baddies scenario, possibly revenge for one character or maybe youíve got to save the world from an army of invading Bill Gateses. Also, you have to choose whether the player is going to be able to get through the game in a week or whether itís going to last them for a lot longer. Lastability is one of the hardest things to get right. If itís too long, people get bored and give up, if itís too short they complain that they were ripped off.
Sound ñ Overlooked by many, but I still think this is important. The soundtrack to a game can help create atmosphere and can also shoot unknown bands to fame :-) Are you going to choose to have a soundtrack composed purely for the game or are you going to use actual music written and played by proper bands? Basically, are you going to take a Nintendo approach (Composed simply for the game) or the Tony Hawks approach (Actual music) Whatever you choose, it may set the trend for the whole game. If youíre trying to make a RPG itís best to have music that loops and doesnít have any singing, if youíre going for a sports game, or a game with a time limit, then itís best to use proper music.
Other Options ñ Multiplayer, hidden extras, cheats, online options and so forth. Basically, anything that may contribute to the game overall. Multiplayer being the most important, Thereís never anything better than beating your mate at a game :-) Hidden extras are also a great addition because people (Usually Trekkies :-D) WILL spend the time finding them all, as they will with the cheats. If you have to complete a certain challenge in a specific time (¡ la GoldenEye) then it gets the players continually trying to beat their previous time.
If you could choose all these factors and tailor them to your specific tastes, then you could create YOUR perfect game. And the beauty of it is, it could be anything! You want porn? You can have porn! You want blood and gore? You can have blood and gore! And thereíd be no censorship to stop you! Itíd be YOUR game made by YOU, and no one could take it away because you wouldnít be publishing it mainstream!

Have a maltesers and apple sandwich to celebrate old chap.
Well, it is highly unlikely it would be about the same rubbish company I dealt with called Pick'n'Mix.
Personally I think that the Perfect Game must include the four ingredients of the magic formula:
Impact (Needs originality and surprises)
Character (A unique style - a good blend from the graphics, atmosphere, music and gameplaying style)
Reward and Punishment - (make it as hard as hell, but hugely satisfying to complete)
Game Pace - (easy to get into, but impossible to finish. Stays interesting but lasts a long time. Gets hard gradually rather than suddenly becoming impossible and making the gamer fed up.)
Add a balance between the additives: Sugar (colourful graphics), and liquor (known to most as violence), makes sure that the graphics and gameplay are well blended together and you ought to have a classic on your hands.
