I work with Windows XP Home Edition and this old version of messenger still pops-up in the icon bar by the digital clock if I don't click it off. It runs automatically if I open Internet Explorer or Outlook Express, and can't be closed unless the corresponding program is closed - apparently, it uses messenger for information (presumably address book, etc).
Does anyone know how I can remove this version of Messenger from my PC so that only 5.0 remains? I've tried looking for an uninstall option, but with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.
Yet.
Last time I downloaded a pre-release version it fecked it up.
> How?
My mate had it on his site, but the link cannot be accessed anymore...
It was www.hostultra.com/~phatboy, but now it is gone :'(
Just set the other one to not load on startup (go to the settings) or go to start -> run and type this in:
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
To uninstall it completely. However, it may be then difficult to reinstall it should you ever need it (for example, MSN 6.0 needs the original XP messenger for functions such as the whiteboard).
