If you canít wait, buy one on import. Ludicrously easy, buy direct from a US retailer and prices will be pleasingly near their expected UK release price, including delivery, duty and VAT.

Nintendo do not hate you because they havenít released the GameCube here. Remember, the Japanese launch was only six weeks ago for goodness sake. If the console launches here in the Spring, that will be around 5/6 months after the Japanese launch ñ pretty much standard in console launching history. Remember the wait between the N64ís Japanese launch? Itís looking like it wonít be anywhere near that long.

And whatís the worst that happens? Youíll have the console for four years anyway ñ on that time scale whatís a few months? Remember: the longer the release is held back the more software there will be. Oh, and weíll get a later version of the console ñ if there are minor bugs in the initial batches theyíll have been detected and ironed out by UK launch.

In short ñ no one hates you and if you really canít wait do what Iím doing and grab one from the US.

Well if your a dodgy Japanese guy, then you can play American stuff on your Jap Gamecube. So no doubt a similar technique will be found for PAL Gamecubes. Or more likely, you'll be able to get some sort of bootdisk eventually!

Does anyone know if it will be possible to play PAL games on the NTSC consoles in the future?

Conflict of interests here - I could tell you where to go to get the best price on a Jap GC direct from the East and/or a step down converter, but I'm not comfortable with posting links to other retail sites on SR's boards.

Sorry.

I'm gonna get a PAL one too!

Cos if you don't, there's no poping down the local and pickin' up a 2nd hand game dirt cheap!

Hmmmmm... I've looked into this a fair bit - direct from US on-line retailers games can end up cheaper (assuming a £45.99 ish price per-game) if you don't get stung for VAT (the £25-£75ish bracket is a grey area, some get through, others don't - guess who imports loads of games/DVDs?).

There's even a Canadian company who offers free postage. I'd give their URL, but you should all buy SR - they don't want to ship hardware to me so I don't have to :)

All in all, games earlier (in general) at around the same price = me happy with the deal.

I would import one, but I don't fancy having to pay extra to import games from the United States every time a new game is out. I'd rather buy the UK version (which could possibly be different....PokÈmon Pinball on Game Boy Color was!).

Who said anything about Nintendo hating the UK? I know I didn't. They just don't consider us a big enough market, even though last year the top selling items were videogames/consoles which beat 1999's Mobile phones. I think Nintendo just need to get updated on public relations. They need to realise the what Nintendo are doing to Europe and Australia, who also use the pal systems, (constant delays for games and possibly the GameCube) could actually effect the publics opinions from other countries. Not immediately but in the longer term.

I will be buying a pal version GameCube, quite possibly from Special Reserve, as then I can play any pal game I buy without any problems.

I was nearly tempted with the PS2, but no more do these stupid thoughts infect my brain.

I spent all of today playing on my recently purchased copy of Silicon Valley, I haven't had this much fun on a game for ages. It was then I realised that you really can only play this sort of game on a Nintendo console. I will wait as long as I have too, in my mind a few more months will be good, that way I can get maximum use out of my N64, what with all these bargains i'm picking up.
