Consoles, how original. This is basically what most of us think when we hear the word, but surely in the future we will all have different views towards consoles.

Many popular gaming developers are most likely to produce more and more consoles if the profit rolls in. So let's view each developer and see if they have the potential for a great gaming future.

Nintendo
First, Nintendo. This company is probably the most anticipated name when it comes to gaming. It was Nintendo that really begun the console world, with the NES. The NES was (still is) a 8-bit machine, which could hold the maximum of two controllers. Many great games, mainly RPGs, were developed for the NES and made it very successful at the time. Another factor that made the NES so popular was the fact that it really didn't have any competition at the time.
The next development from Nintendo was the SNES. The main improvement between the previous Nintendo console was visibly marginal, but the SNES was 16-bit (double of NES). This practical machine carried on what the NES started, and brought better accessibility, gameplay and graphics. Many games over the years were made for the SNES and prices were quite cheap. But this time Nintendo had competition from Sega, so they really had to pull something off in order to continue their great name.
After the SNES came the ever popular Gameboy. This was quite a powerful machine for its size, known as a handheld. It was small enough to fit in some sized pockets and fun enough to play anywhere. Gameboys came in a range of colours depending on what you wanted. Even though it didn't provide amazing graphics it still managed to present fun gameplay, especially when boredom arrives. A great, manouvreable form of gaming entertainment and it appealed to most gamers. Nintendo didn't stop there with their handheld creations though, they went from Gameboy to Gameboy Colour. The main, obvious difference was the appearance. The Gameboy was mainly black and white, but the Gameboy colour appeared in colour. This was still a hugely popular hanheld, which Nintendo made a lot of profit from. Nintendo were on a rolling streak!
When Nintendo really revolutionised was when the N64 was created. This 64-bit machine had a modernised look and improved graphics. The gameplay for most of its games were standard, but nothing really special. Since previous Nintendo developments had given Nintendo a great reputation the N64 was a must-have for Nintendo fans. For fans of Nintendo the N64 was an enjoyable console, but for other console fans it was nothing extraordinary.
Nintendo noticed this, acted to criticisms and came up with another handheld. The Gameboy Advance. As you can probably tell from the title and from playing it, Nintendo's view of handhelds had revolutionised. This splendid little machine has the power of a Playstation (32-bit) squashed into it, making for great graphics for something so little. When you compare the size and power of the Gameboy Advance to the Playstation you can instantly notice the effort Nintendo put in creating this masterpiece. Truly amazing!!!
Now Nintendo have developed another monster of a machine, due for release next year in the UK. Yes, it's the Gamecube. This is to be THE most powerful console ever created by Nintendo and from what I've seen it is nothing short of spectacular. The graphics are superb, gameplay's brilliant as expected and the console itself has revolutionised from previous Nintendo creations. Nintendo have stopped using cartridges for their consoles and are now using CDs. The GameCube is sure to be a big hit all over the world building up Nintendo's already great reputation.

Overall Nintendo look to have a great gaming future ahead of them, which has just begun with the creation of a next-gen console, the Nintendo GameCube. Without a doubt, they're very strong contenders to many developers.

Sega
Now Sega. Sega's role in the console world started round about the same time as when the SNES came out. Sega introduced the Sega Mega Drive to the world of gaming entertainment, which was well accepted. Audiences flocked to own a Mega Drive due to its 16-bit graphics and some truly addictive games. Game developers helped build Sega's reputation with the creation of some fantastic games like Mortal Kombat. The Mega Drive provided the gaming world a wider range of entertainment available and it also read data from cartridges, but its competitor Nintendo was a huge threat towards it. Sega's Mega Drive could hold two controllers, which some found quite uncomfortable.
After the Sega Mega Drive, Sega developed quite a powerful handheld. This handheld had competition with the very popular Gameboy, but was also very popular due to its addictive gameplay and manouvreability.
Sega then developed another console. The Sega Saturn. This read data from discs and was very popular due to its very much improved graphics. The gameplay for most of its games were quite good at the time, so were very popular. The Saturn was quite a powerful console, which brought in great games like Sega Rally making Sega a lot more popular to the public.
Still, Sega had something missing in most of their previous developments and knew they had to improve. This led to the creation of Sega's finest console, the Dreamcast. Sega had finally created a worthy console, which appealed to a wider range of gamers. This powerful 128-bit console had visibly improved graphics and their games weren't half-bad either, but were still nothing out of the ordinary. Still, the Dreamcast was hugely successful for a certain period of time, then gaming fans interest towards the console gradually faded away leaving Sega's game developers to stop creating games for the console.

Overall Sega have had quite an important role in the gaming industry, but they still don't look have a good future for consoles. Most of their creations have been and gone, and it seems that they don't have any impact in the world of gaming. Unlucky Sega.

Sony Playstation
The Playstation was released in the year 1995 and was hugely popular in a number of weeks. Why? Well, simply because of its outstanding gameplay, which fitted right in with the 32-bit graphics. Playstation had many great game developers by its side making great games for a great console. With the Playstation came comfortable pads, accessible 1mb memory cards and CDs. Although most games for the Playstation had long loading times, they were still highly playable and enjoyable. Sony's part in the gaming industry was fantastic!
The Playstation carried on strong for a very long time, even against its many contenders, so didn't feel the need to follow Nintendo/Sega's footsteps and build a handheld. It's a great idea, but due to Sony's inexperience in cartridges it wasn't followed up.
The Playstation remained dominant in the industry, but like every other console it lost interest. Mainly because of repetitive games. Sony knew this was going to happen so while the Playstation was reigning, Sony were developing a console that was to have a massive impact in the world of gaming. The PS2!!! Sony had made a revolutionary 128-bit console, with the power to play revolutionary games. But at its release the PS2 didn't receive games that showed off its real potential, but were still very well accepted. Lately, many great games have been developed for PS2 drawing more and more people to it. The PS2 has many features:

A massive 8mb memory card
Analogue controllers
Multi-tap
DVD player
Internet accessibility

All these and many more to come.

Playstation's future in gaming entertainment looks fantastic. Their game developers are great, they always seem to produce fantastic new features and their experience in gaming is sure to boost their technological developments for the future. Great!!!

Microsoft
The Legend Bill Gates has decided that his multi-billion dollar company is to join the console world. Even though they've had some experience with PC games, Microsoft still needed some kind of idea what gamers want today. This led to a huge survey delivered all over the US gaining info of what gamers like in gaming.
The Xbox is the huge development by Microsoft. This is said to be THE most powerful of all the next-gen consoles and it's going to be BIG!! Already, it's attracted many gamers all over the world and I'm sure it's going to boost Microsoft start in the console world.

Microsoft is probably the most anticipated company for future consoles. With the brains of Bill behind them and their huge range of technology there's surely no doubt of Microsoft's success in the future. Long live Microsoft!!!

Consoles for the future are going to be tremendous. Already we can notice this from next-gen consoles already developed, which are spectacular. In the future, consoles will continue to dominate and compete with one another, but surely they're going to provide the industry with more dedicated gamers and fans. The future looks bright, the future looks 'Consoles'!

At the risk of sounding biased I must point out that some of Sonys 'great' features aren't that original...
The analogue controller only came about when Nintendo released the designs for their N64 bound controller, as did the rumble facility. The multi-tap... erm there was one on the Snes I believe and Micro Machines (one of its' incarnations...) on the MegaDrive had 2 extra controller ports IN THE CARTRIDGE!!! thats inventive! And y is a multi tap so great when Sony could just include 4 controller ports??? Do u like the extra wires???

And the DVD playback... I know I have said this before but I have heard the dvd quality isn't great and this is kind of proven cos special reserve are actually selling a cable for the PS2 that eliminates something called 'Green Screen' in PS2 DVD playback. Now if the quality is so great y are SR selling something to eliminate a problem with it?

I'm sure someone is now gonna come up with many faults with this post and point out how Nintendo are actually the scourge of the universe attempting to brainwash kids with their evil Pokemon toys... I thought childrens TV ads brainwashed the kids but I could be wrong...

...1) Sibs, the PS2 DVD playback that I've witnessed has had no faults at all. Everything's clear! Maybe PS2's that aren't in 100% condition may have this problem, but most don't.

2) The idea for the analogue didn't come from N64 because previous analogues had already been made for the Playstation.

and
3) The PS2 multi-tap is much more appealing than the SNES. Also most of the PS2 games like DOA2 are much better multi-player games than SNES due to better graphics and gameplay.

Gocu, I know all this because of my experience in gaming. In probably every game I've played, I'm the Jedi and undefeatable. I've seen so many things about gaming that I can't help but absorb the things I hear and witness.

So I'm not totally mad, I'm simply sane.

Thanks for the info, Reload. Lots of interesting stuff.
Just a quick point on DVD Playback with PS2. I bought mine in Austria. My first scart cable was fine but the rabbit bit through it so I had to buy a new one (don't ask!). The new cable, when inserted fully, was a very tight fit and gave the green screen playback. However, after pulling it out slightly, I now have a perfect picture and full digital sound. I am not sure what this means but if my experience helps others...
