Right, I've got an Xbox and I wanted to hook it up to a 5.1 system to get the full surround sound. Now what I need to know is what I will need for this?

Will I need a decoder as well as the 5 speakers? And, if so, what type of lead will I need to hook it up to the Xbox?

Thanks - you help would be appreciated in such a minor matter.

If you buy something like a Gamester 5.1 surround sound system, that has the speakers Inc sub, and decooder and cables. Then all you need is an Advanced SCART lead, and that's it.

You should be able to get the whole thing for around £100.

All the Dolby Digital system which come with DVD players do NOT come with an OPTICAL OUTPUT which you need. My AMP has a decoder built in which is handy so you would be best to find one with a decoder built in. The Advanced scart cable has an OPTICAL INPUT so you need that along with an OPTICAL INPUT Cable. Connect one end of the Optical Input into the scart and one end into the back of the Amp. Providing the Amp has a decoder you will be up and running in no time at all.

Yes you do need to get the full speaker set(5 speakers and sub) and then a decoder. You can usually get a 5.1 system that has the 5 speakers, subwoofer and decoder. Seen some for just over £100 which seem ok. Then you need to get the advanced scart cable so that you can hook it all up via an optical cable.
