Don't know how many of you have seen the news story showing the PSX, basically a PS2 with some nice additions and an improved look.

I'm a little surprised by the news, might attract new people towards Sony and maybe even attract PS2 owners to swap their PS2 for one of these.

Their covering their bases. Clever. Now if they just released some good controllers (or we had some third party adapters allowing us to use other console controllers).

No, it's not like having a blank tape - *they* can control what you record on DVD due to it being digital. Pre-recorded games are or will be blocked so you just can't make a copy like that. Such dvd writers on a consoles would be only for recording your own stuff like photo's, music clips, and so on.

FFX does use the hard disc to speed up load times, but it's not a requirement.

SKY+, thats another £10 per month on top of PAY channel line ups just to press record. PACE have a Freeview version which has no contract . And Sony "software" based recorder probably wouldn't need subscription. However, this kind of thing is usually limited - there is no way a Sony machine like this would include a Cable, Freeview, Satellite, or PAL Analogue tuner. U would have to connect it up to a Freeview, Cable, or Satellite box - so you could only record what you have on the screen (can't record one digital channel while viewing another digital channel).

DVD recorders are getting much cheaper now. Just last Dec, the Philips DVD machine for your tv was £799, now it's less than half price. Another 6 months and you will def see similar machines for £249.99, and possibly £199.99.

Hold on, hold on. A DVD Writer is possible in the future. But I bet Games are copy protected so you can't copy them! Like trying to make a VHS copy of (most) DVD movies - there is a block in there. If a future console has a CD writer or DVD Writer it will be for storing your own stuff like internet downloads, sound clips, photo's, etc.

BTW, blank DVD's have less capacity than "pre-made" DVD's. So if it's a really big DVD game, it might not fit on to the blank disc.

I might fork out the money if they do a ps2 trade in, which knocks off a bit of the price.

I think Snuggly is right here, is aimed more at the electronics market, does a few things as well as playing the games.

To me its no different to the way Nintendo release products like the GBA and then the GB SP.

Depending on the price, it would probably attract me to get one a bit more. But my brother has one anyway, so I won't.

I think it's cool, although saying that, I wouldn't buy one because I've already got a PS2. It's aimed primarily at the electronics market, not towards the gamers market, which is probably a good idea.
