Nintendo have been around for over 100 years, right? I'm sure they know how to stay alive in the business.

Reuters come along and prophesise doom and everyone takes their word as final.

What the hell is wrong with everyone?

No one expected the GameCube to last 6 years (quoting er-no's topic) - and Nintendo have already announced their new console is in the design process and that they are planning to release it before the PS3 and Xbox 2.

Nintendo have made far less mistakes this time round than when they were 'supposedly' marketing the N64. There's been TV ads, posters, emails, bus adverts, a hell of a lot more than they've ever done before.

And yet, because Reuters say one thing, you all think that Nintendo are doomed???

I don't understand you guys...

I agree with that.

When it comes to releasing the next console though, it's going to take a couple years from announcing it (with codenames, designs, etc) before it reaches European shores anyway, by which time GameCube owners will most likely be ready for a new console.

I don't fall into the regular Ninty group that fills this forum, I like my gamecube and the games I have but I see Nintendo as somewhat shooting themselves in the foot.

If they release there next console before one of the others then I can see it annoying a lot of the loyal Nintendo fans who are sticking with the Gamecube.
In the same way I just get the feeling that they don't really care about the European market even though its probably the largest growing.

They really need to find out what Nintendo gamers want, what non-nintendo gamers want and do both.

However, the Playstation 2 was released first, has the worst specs, clearly the worst graphics capabilities, etc, etc, yet it sells the most.

It doesn't necessarily go by power.

The Dreamcast was released post-N64 and Playstation. It was the most powerful console at the time.

It failed.

I understand where I work and who I have met from Nintendo. I also understand that Nintendo releasing a new GameCube 'before' the rival companies is going to be the biggest mistake they'll ever make.

The public don't want a new console yet! Also, it is already clear that a machines power reflects its sales, people hear the XBox is the most powerful and buy it from that stat. Nintendo's 'GC2' will be the least powerful. It will fail.
