Has anyone jumped to get XP yet? For me, even MS's "10 reasons to upgrade" are unconvincing. Mind you, I havent seen the new interface yet, but the supposed advantages in multimedia don't sound much of an advance to me ... I've already got the new Media Player, and I'm happy with the way I can handle digital photos.
Still, if someone out there says "Get it now" and gives me a good reason for shelling out £90, then I'll at least listen.

Thanks for the replies - but I'm keeping my £90 and Win98 for a while. At least the retail price wars seem to be starting now on the upgrade, so maybe there's hope.

Never crashes? Disproved that a few times on my mate's box.. I wouldn't upgrade myself, all these new features can be down with a few downloads for your current version of windows anyway. I'll stick with 2k for...well, forever at this rate, very good OS.

As for the copying stuff...read this:

Plenty of heavy MS bashing in there, but the facts are straight.

it's meant to be REALLY hard to crash....
not compatible with all old games such as FF7 (well goto gamespot and read what they said)
err one copy per computer you have (which is a bit of bummer)....which you have to register....
but mind you people have already hacked it.....

As I understand it, you get a CD, but have to re-apply for a new registration code every time you install it... or something.

Is XP the one where you don't get a CD???
And that you are paying only to use it for a few years???

Or have I got that confused with something else?

It looks lovely, and sounds quite nifty... especially the CD-R aspect.

But I begrudge forking out ANOTHER £80 for ANOTHER upgrade to features which could be downloadable from Windows Update for nothing.

Still, if and when work get hold of some...

I'm still not convinced! Sure some of those features are useful... but I don't really see myself struggling on Windows 95!

Get it now!

i have had it for a few days and the interface and the freindliness alone woyld be enough to make me buy it. but there is another feature or two which are quite nice.

1. i know that it was on windows ME but if you are upgrading from 98se or below then the System restore feature is very useful for tinkerers like myself.

2. the ability to use a cdr or cd-rw as if it was a floppy, no more do you have to use aseperate program to put files onto your blank cd's, simply copy and paste them onto the CD.

3. and another feature that is useful is the one that enables you to go back to using an old driver if a new or updated one messes up.

4. the speed at which your pc will boot up and load and run programs in easily faster than before.

hopefully this has helped you. it is deffinitly an improvment over the previous windows but obviously the price is an issue. :)
