I got THPS2 and Virtua Tennis , and have played hours and hours and hours on them , but I still need to do oodles on both of them to finish ! This is because they have one thing :
LONGEVITY
Now , some people confuse LONGEVITY with DIFFICULTY , but mostly this is not the case . Okay , so if the game is really easy you can just skip through it , but think now of this , if a game was really hard , you wouldn`t play it for long . Why ? Because you wouldn`t get any where ! And you would just lose every time and get really frustrated .
So we know now that is wrong . Also , some people mistake LONGEVITY for the AMOUNT OF SECRETS . This also is not usually the case . If you could unlock things all the time , it would not be unusual for a new mode , or a new character to appear . Also , at the other extreme , to unlock hardly anything , means you wouldn`t have the urge to keep playing .
Also , some people think the secret of LONGEVITY lies in the GAMEPLAY . But that also is not usially the case . What if , they made a fighting game with great gameplay , but only a handful of fights ! So this is obviously not the case .
Finally , I think everyone realises that GRAPHICS have absolutely nothing to do with LONGEVITY , although you don`t play a game where you can`t tell what`s happening because of this .
LONGEVITY is , in fact a mixture of all those things . Levels which are a challenge , but possible . Secrets which are rewarding , but hidden . And addictive gameplay that keeps you coming back again and again and again .
no new character, stage or secret move so I stopped playing, same with Tetrisphere and countless others (mainly older games as they RARELY had new things to unlock)
can you guess which games i still play??
yes, of course, Perfect Dark (multiplayer ranking mode to build up on and HUGE playability from the cheats EARNED)
earned....another point...I played Goldeneye and Super Smash Brothers longest as you had to EARN everything, cheats CAN ruin a game or sometimes better a game, which i feel is a VERY difficult thing to do.
eg.
Star Wars : Rogue Squadron is one of my favourite games as the cheats didn't alter the game drastically but Vigilante 8? heheheh, i sold that yesterday for a few quid.
Surely?
Because nobody has a clue how to actually pronounce it.
Looking at one of the statments makes me laugh... but you're right....
LOL!
I sometimes confuse longetivity with the amount of characters a game has....
