I'm not the understanding type, but i would go for the gfz card, as the more powerful the card is, and the larger the memory bandwidth, the more it can let the processor do IT'S work, instead of spreading out it's power to graphics and normal processing.

am i right in thinking that?

I would say graphics card, as with a decent enough system a Radeon 9700 Pro can really add some performance and let you play all the newest graphical games in AA and AF much smoother.

Another thing you should consider is how much RAM you have and what sort. As the new AMD motherboard like the nForce2 boards support dual RAM. This dual RAM opens more memory bandwidth when used. So for example you had 512mb DDR400 and decided to get 2 x 256 DDR400 and use dual memory then your systems performance would infact increase by quite abit, even though you still have the same amount of RAM.

I am building a PC in a few weeks and will be using 2 x 512mb DDR400 and use dual memory so hopefully it will be a fast machine, especially with a XP2800 Barton and a Radeon 9700 Pro/.
