A fantastic game.
Grand Theft Auto 3 is one of those games that seemingly will last forever with the ability to do just about anything you want. Its one of those games that has no set structure, and you decide how things are going to work, whether you will do that mission or this one,its completely in your hands, and this is what really brings this game a cut above the others,Freedom.
The first, and possible the most anticipated improvement in the game is the conversion from a top down 2D graphics view to a fully 3D world.Rockstar have really done well here creating a whole new, more believable world and have not lost anything from the previous games. The city is alive, with thousands of people wandering around the blocks or driving their cars, basically going about their daily life. And these people are not just there to walk around, they interact with each other, whether its just an unfriendly grunt or a punch up,thugs and other gang members are constantly picking on the ones of the weaker part of society and you regularly see an old women mugged of her pension. There are often gunfights between rival gangs on a large scale, and it is by no means good to be caught in the middle. The thieves are not just destined for the side walks either, just like you they kill, but they can even steal cars too,and they can even steal them from you! This world is one of the most alive ones ever to be captured in a game.
The graphics in the game are excellent, and the city looks very pleasant. There has been a lot of effort put into detail and this shows, all the buildings look great with windows, doors and signs. On the paths are all the usual things, lampposts, fire high drens, directions, ect. With the big city, there is very little pop up,and the road appears all very smoothly, slow down too is not a problem and this reinforces the power and effort that has been put in.Its great to climb to the top of a building and look at the view, seeing the people live there lives, and see the huge bridge in the background, the sun baking down on you. This games graphics really live up to expectation.
There are 50+ vehicles to ëborrowí,all fully destroyable. There are all the different type of cars you can think of,from the family 7 seaters,to the sports cars that blaze around the city. All the emergency vehicles are there for the taking, police, ambulance and even a fire truck,as you burn down the road too,the other cars will turn in to let you past which is great for those fast chases. There are boats to be taken too, these aid you to get from one island to another, and are really just an alternative type of transport All these can be destroyed, and there are so many impact points on the cars, everything on them can be damaged, even the mirrors can be smashed off.Every crash is a pleasure to watch and really do look very real.It is also possible to ride Trains and Planes.Taking cars is easy,a press of a button, but the victims will not lay down, if they have the chance they will open the door and haul you back out!All the cars handle well, not the most realistic, but serve there purpose. Another plus is that each vehicle has a radio, and these are extremely funny, just listen to some of them, great!
Again, there is a huge array of weapons, including many of the old favourites like the flamethrower and machine gun.New things have been included like a sniper rifle which is fun to use, especially when on top of a building picking cops and others off! All these can be fired in any direction, you are helped to target with a lock on method used by holding R1,this at first is a little hard to get use to,but you soon get the hang of it.
There are 78 missions in total, with many others in between, its also possible when in the cars to become a Taxi driver, cop, medic and firemen for little missions for extra money. All this just adds to the vast amount that you can do in the game, and it will take some time to finish. This is one of the best games out,if its its not taken too serious, its just a game remember.
A fantastic game.
