WebKit announced they are working with Google to provide free web font's for use on your websites.

You can check out the Google Font Directory right now!

They have even provided a JS loader so you can allow pages to load first then apply the font, rather than having a Flash of no content in some browsers whilst the font loads!

Not sure how many people here have experimented with Web Fonts yet but it's definitely something worth taking a look at! Especially because these solutions work in all modern browsers (including IE 6+) :D

Sample usage would be to put this in your :

<link href="http://fonts.googleapis .com/css?family=Vollkorn" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">

(remove the space before the .com)

Then in your CSS for your website reference the font like so:

h1 { font-family: "Vollkorn", arial, serif; }

Easy web fonts!!

Does it fail gracefully if Google can't be reached for any reason?

100% yes, if the browser cannot find the font definition it falls back to the next font. In my example below this would be arial.
