I've finally worked it out.
It took me two days because watching everything unfold with my own two eyes wasn't good enough, and I had to read a detailed description on what happened afterwards to find out that it wasn't really what El Blokey said happened.
When the truth about HALO fan (didn't) come out, that alternate universe expired and all three of them ceased to exist.
