Weíve discussed many, many times what we think will happen to gaming over the next few years. Weíve talked all about what the new consoles will do to the market. Weíve talked about where gaming will go next. Weíve talked... You get the idea.
However, instead of talking about the future of gaming (which I rarely do anyway :-D) Iím going to talk (IE. Ramble on) about the future of mankind.
Over the past countless millennia, Mankind has evolved from green slime in the oceans into apes who lived in the trees to the creatures we are now. The most intelligent life-form on Earth (As far as we know). But who knows whatís going to happen next to us in the Evolutionary department? Maybe weíll all grow an extra thumb, perhaps weíll grow tentacles... Who knows?
Think about the radical changes this would have on the gaming world! 8 tentacled beings wielding controller pads the size of a TV. 5 thumbed Philanthropods using liquid controller pads attached to palm sized consoles...
But can you imagine what kind of games weíd be able to play?! Maybe we could control two characters at the same time, this would add a whole new dimension to the gameplay, it would allow 8 characters to be used by only 4 ëpeopleí, and that would be without a multi-tap... Whatever that may have changed into.
Shoot-em-ups would be totally revolutionised, as would puzzlers, Adventure games, flight sims tooÖ Everything would be changed.
It would be an advancement of what happens in Luigiís mansion. One control stick to freeze the ghosts, one to suck them up, but instead of concentrating on only the one ghost, two could be frozen at the same time if the pads incorporated two extra control sticks.
Of course this would all add to the size of the hardware, but again, this would add to the gameplay. With huge screens it would be easier to see, With massive controller pads more little extras could be added on and with massive CD/Cartridges (Which will probably be extinct by thenÖ) the sheer amount of power that it could hold could mean that they had the capability to do a hell of a lot more than they can at the moment.
It wouldnít be all good of course, the price would be ridiculous, more space would be needed and you may need to buy a sky-scraper (Probably renamed and Star-scraper by thenÖ) to develop the damn things in. But if thatís the price we have to pay for completely revolutionary games and consoles, does it really matter what the drawbacks are if the advantages are so huge?

I think its all too much work :D

SHOCKY
I presume that you are talking about the post that I made.
I AM THE GREAT SAIYAMAN!!!!

*Blushes and runs off*
:-D

So if we evolve a few more, we'll still only use one character, but maybe with a little more depth.
It would make twister quite interesting, too.
On the downside though, what if you thought

Why is this a dis-advantage? It would all add to the fun of the game. It may get frustrating in the end, but would still be fun.
Maybe the controller could come with a special option that can allow you to filter out certain thoughts.

My thoughts were of a special controller that would fit on to your head and read your nerve impulses. This would then be used to control characters. Just imagine. No more numb thumbs or fingers from battering the buttons, no more aching arms. It would be briliiant.
And the games would have changed to fit this as well. Characters would be completely mobile so that they can do absolutley anything. Just think. Your playing an advanced version of Goldeneye. You crouch up against a wall with you PPK Silencer and Sub-machine gun. Instead of poking your head around the corner with the added risk of getting shoot, you put both arms around the corner and fire both guns. No luck. So you roll out and pop both of the baddies. Then someone on the above balcony starts shooting at you with sparks flying off the floor beside you. You decide to do a Martin Riggs and sideways roll across the floor shooting the bloke, who then falls to the ground and sanpping his neck.
Ooooo what a joy that would be.
I also had a thought of those movement sensitive contoller thingies. I have never actually seen one in action but I have read about them. I really hope we get better versions of these. Dead or Alive 10 and this would go very well together.
Just one last one. I reckon in the future we will get holedecks like in Star Trek (a long way in the future). This would be brilliant. You actually get to be in the game yourself. You get to be who you want to be and play it exactly how you want to play it. You get total control of the game. And, eventually, you would be able to create your own game. Any past game that you always wanted to have this and that. Recreate adding in all of these elements and just make it even better.
(Yes, and this is really likely to happen, but its good to dream).
