Last couple of days my site wasn't working, despite the fact that the upgrade was only supposed to knock off FTP, not HTTP access.

And now that it's back online, my php message board isn't working - I don't have access to any of the files it stores, due to changed file permissions!

I hope Freeola know what they're doing! Has anyone else had any trouble?

OK, now to make it even more confusing, when I create a new file, the filepermissions are set to the default 311. (This is what all the others that are used for my scripts are set to). Now I have already found out that I can't access my current 311 files anymore I have to set them to 777. But I _can_ access the new files I have created, despite the fact that they have the same file permissions as the ones I can't.

Can anybody help me out? I'm rapidly losing hits to my site, since I have used these PHP scripts to make a message board...

OK, I could change my file permissions to 777, but surely that is extremely insecure? Doesn't the last 7 mean all users have read, write and execute access to the files?

I am not sure which upgrade you are refering to but I take it it was the one done last year. This was when we were forced to move servers and lost two weeks of ftp data. This was caused by another company going bust. This time we moved web to two new servers to speed it up. Now the permissions thing should not destroy your work, all you need to do is change the permissions to the new ones and it will work fine.

Sorry I havent replied but I've been busy on the upgrade. OK all e-mail is now working fine although some was bounced over the weekend. FTP has no changed from ftp.freeola.net to www.domainname.xxx or www.alias.classemaildomain.xxx. All scripts, data files and includes need to have the permissions of 777 set on them. Any other problems just ask and I will reply either over the weekend or on Monday

My website doesn't work at all, I just get a 404 message, and customer services were no help at all.

Ah, good to know it's not just me then.

I've e-mailed support about it as I need it back working ASAP, before I lose too many visitors!

Yes, I have. For most of yesterday and today the whole of my website was down. I only planning on there being problems with PHP/CGI but not the whole website. It's turns out that there was a problem with the server where it was stored, and they mangaged to sort that out now.

But I think why the PHP/CGI isn't working at the mo mayb because they have not yet had a chance to configure the servers probabley for that.
