I wrote this review a while ago for some other sites, but I thought people here may be interested in this excellent game rentals website :)

Boomerang rentals is just like any other rental company on the Internet, except they specialise in video games. I originally came across Boomerang rentals when I was looking for a website to join so I could rent games. I tried all the usual big rental companies already on the Internet, however they focused mainly on films and to rent games you had to pay much extra. I then realised there are a couple of websites out there who do just rent games and, after some research, I decided to go with Boomerang back in November 2007. I have recieved such an excellent service from Boomerang and I noticed there isn't a review about this website, so I've felt compelled to tell you all about my experience with Boomerangrentals.co.uk.

When you first load up the Boomerang website you will notice a nice black and orange colour scheme. Recently Boomerang re-designed their whole website, originally it was a blue and orange colour scheme, and the site itself quite basic and sometimes slow. The new image Boomerang is much better and more easy on the eyes, and puts out a much more trustworthy image for anyone looking to join Boomerang.

Boomerang rents games for the Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii and even the DS so not matter what games console you have there's something here for you! There is a huge selection of games for each console and, as new games get released, they appear on Boomerang for you to rent.

So how does it work? Well Boomerang's system is basically the same as other online rental websites. You browse through the different games and, when you see a game you like, simply click on 'Rent It' and the game is added to your 'Pipeline.' You may notice the 'Rent It' button has a coloured dot on it. Boomerang uses a traffic light system to let you know how in demand a certain game is.
Green - Demand for this title is reasonable.
Amber - Demand for this title is quite high.
Red - Demand for this title is high. May not always be available to rent.
As you may have noticed Boomerang are telling you how much in demand a game is, not if there's only 'a few left to rent.' Boomerang say that you should always only list the games you want in your pipeline, no matter what the demand status is, as this helps them to know how much stock to order in for each game. In my experience I have never been hanging on for a certain game for months!
Your Pipeline is a list of the games you would like to rent. You can change the priority of each game by moving them up or down your pipeline. Very simple.
Boomerang have recently released a new section called 'Service Options.' They state they are the only online rental company to do this new feature and it's very good! This new section allows you to customise the service you recieve from Boomerang, you can choose if you want to recieve all your top choices in your Pipeline, or if you just want the fastest turnaround possible.
So for example, if you choose 'Top 5' Boomernag will always send you games from the Top 5 of your list, turnaround may be a little slower though (although in my experience you never get a slow turnaround with Boomerang!) You can also choose Top 3, Balanced and Fast. This is a great new feature from Boomerang who are constantly improving their service.

Onto the different membership packages they offer.
The prices are:
Value - £7.99 p/m - 1 game at a time and a max of 2 games a month.
Unlimited One - £9.99 p/m - 1 game at a time and no max limit.
Unlimited Two - £13.99 p/m - 2 games at a time and no max limit.
Unlimited Priority - £15.99 - 2 games at a time and no max limit and recieve priority over new releases.
Boomerang also have a 21 day free trial for new members.
I have been a member since November 2007 and these prices have never gone up. I personally have always been on the Value package which is more than enough for me and I have recieved new releases more than often!
Considering a new release Xbox360 game can cost on average between £30-35, I am saving loads of money paying only £8 a month! According to Boomerang I have saved a whopping £489 since being a member against RRP of games. You can also take a 'subscription holiday' and this is very easy to do online, along with cancelling... but I've never wanted to do that!
Now with alot of rental sites you probably don't expect to recieve a new release game or movie as it's going to be very popular. With Boomerang I will always recieve a new release if I want it. For example I had Fable 2 on pre-order for about £30. Instead I cancelled that and sent back the game I was currently renting to Boomerang. I put Fable 2 in my pipeline (and nothing else!). The day BEFORE Fable 2 was released, I recieved it! The same has happened with many new release games espite only being on the Value package. Boomerang send you an e-mail to let you know when they have recieved a game from you, and when a game is dispatched to you, this can often happen on the same day so they do have an extremely fast turnaround. When you recieve an e-mail to say a game is dispatched, you will recieve it the very next day. It's an extremely good service.

When I was originally signing up to Boomerang I was having problems entering my card details and an error page kept coming up. I sent them an e-mail about this. I got a very prompt reply from a manager apologising for this problem I was having. He said he'd spoke to their technical team and they couldn't figure it out. He asked if I was using FireFox and to try using IE. This did turn out to be the problem and it worked fine using IE. I was very impressed with the quick response I recieved!

One time Boomerang didn't recieve a game I sent back to them. Now you are supposed to get a Certificate of Postage when you send back your games but on this occasion I had just popped it in the post box. Boomerang said they wouldn't charge me for the game if I stayed a member until (insert date here) which I was planning to do anyway! As I have mentioned before, I have been a member since November 2007 and only once have they not recieved a game back from me. I will often just pop it in the post box too, rather than taking it to the PO to get a CoP.

Boomerang is an excellent site for all you gaming fans out there. It will save you alot of money compared to buying new release games, and they're simply the best online rental site out there in my opinion! You keep the game until you get frustrated with it or complete it, send it back and recieve another, it couldn't be any easier.
Boomerang recently sent out a customer survey, I will usually ignore these from websites, but I'm so happy with Boomerang's service I filled it out saying how happy I was. A couple of weeks later Boomerang sent out an e-mail saying they were very pleased with everyone's positive response to the survey, and then introduced the new 'Service Options' I mentioned earlier, so Boomerang are always looking to improve.

I can only highly recommend this website and urge all you gaming fans to at least complete the free trial.

Yes the introduction of being able to buy the game you're currently renting or being able to buy ex-rentals is excellent. You can find some good bargains amongst them!

I had this on the old rentals thread. I've been a member since October last year. It does have some great options, and I have now apparently saved approximately £709 from the 23 games I have rented.

I've had small periods of time where the time between receipt and dispatch has been quite long, but nothing major. Some of the game sales are quite good and cheap. Such as right now where Uncharted 2 (Ex-Rental) is £15.77, and the "keep it" price of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is £6.50 (hoping to get that next to have the opportunity to buy it).

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Wonderful...
... and so easy-to-use even for a technophobe like me. I had my website up in a couple of hours. Thank you.
