Basics:
You need to live in an NTL cabled area.
Installation is very cheap.
The cheapest package (that works with PS2 online) is £25, it's a 600k connection, (faster than most ADSL providers).
You DON'T need to get all packages, just ASK THEM for the internet only.
That's about it.
