I'm with Telewest Blueyonder broadband 512Kb connection.

Anyone got same ISP as me and if so here's a few questions?

1. was it easy to set up?

2. does it work fine, (headset)?

3. How do you have it connected, direct or through pc?

4. what other equipment did you have to buy and how much did it cost?

Cheers

ME!

Took 2 weeks of research making sure I was ordering the right equipment/cables/could actually get it to work, and 20 minutes to set up.

No problems, none, nada, zip, everything works better than I'd hoped.

> 3. How do you have it connected, direct or through pc?

Router setup. Basically it goes as follows:

My cable supply comes in through the wall and goes into the back of my Motorola Surfboard SB4100 cable modem supplied by Blueyonder.
The straight through cable from the cable modem that normally went into my PC's network card now plugs into the IN port of a Linksys BEFSR41 ethernet 4 port router.
A straight through CAT5 cable goes from OUT1 port on the router into my PC's network card, another straight through CAT5 cable goes from OUT2 port on the router into my PS2's network adaptor.
Another straight through CAT5 cable goes from OUT3 port on the router into the laptop's network card downstairs.

Linksys BEFSR41 ethernet 4 port router, 2 x 3m straight through CAT5 cables and 1 x 10m straight through CAT5 cable came to £77.54 including VAT and deliver from dabs.com.

If I had connected directly, it wouldn't have cost a penny more than the cost of the PS2 network adaptor which comes with a 2m length of straight through CAT5 cable. The direct connection method is at www.blueyonder.co.uk/ps2 webpage. Note: It mentions on there to register the MAC address of your PS2 network adaptor if you're direct connecting. If you're using a router, register the MAC address of your router instead. (I registered both just in case I need to revert to direct connection one day, if the router breaks down etc).

Cheers man, this sound like the way i plan to connect.

Two more questions,

1. I think i may have asked you before but, I got a Netgear Fast Ethernet Switch Model no. FS108.

Will that do the job?

2. Does your router, (and all routers) need a power supply?

Cos mine does.

I don't know. I checked the beta forums for you, there were a LOT of problems found with other Netgear routers which involved a lot of UDP/TCP port forwarding and other tweaky bits to get communications going in SOCOM, but the FS108 model isn't mentioned. It you want to be 100% sure of not having to tweak anything, trade it in for a LinkSys BEFSR41 which nobody had any problems with, or give Netgear themselves a call and ask them if they've had any feedback from beta testers about getting that model to work with PS2 online.

Yup, I had to unplug a Glade air-freshener to make room for it.
