Name - title: This may be not much of a huge part of it but does have some degree of what you first impresions of the game in question is. What if Resident Evil was called Zombie nightmare, would this title draw your attention more than Resident Evil? It really does sometimes decide whether you by the game or not, many people scour places on the net and by games based on there names, foolish, but true. However, as the old story goes, dont jugde a game on its cover.
Developer: There are many many companys in the gaming industry, some bigger than others. There are many companys with high reputations such as Squaresoft, konami, Namco ect and then there are those less well known ones such as Take 2 and maybe Actavision. When buying a game you may look at who the game is made by to give you some idea of whether it is good are not. A game by Konami may give you the impretion it will be good as they have many excellent releases out allready, but a game made by a less well known developer may put you off. But this is not always the case, all comapanys bring out top games, as they do poor ones.
Genre: Now this is one of the big points, when you after a game you may want a particular type of game, already in your collection maybe many racing games so that maybe the last thing that you want. Many developers have success with different genres, square are very good with RPG's so if there was a racing game by them, you may think twice.
Still though, you may need to do some reasearch first, if your after a tomb raider game, and have the first 3, the last thing you want is another of the same, you want new ideas and so on, the best thing to do is to find another game with the same genre.
Graphics: Perhaps this is not the most important point of them all in theory, but it really is the main point in many peoples eyes. graphics are nearly always chosen over gameplay which really is wrong. There are many games out there with top gameplay but not so good graphics, and sadly these games have lost out to the games with more superier graphics.
Graphics are certainly important though, without them the storys could not be expressed, games would stay in one eara and never be improved. As graphics get better, realism becomes more and more possible.
Games such as the Bouncer prove that in cases of games having good graphics they beat games with good gameplay and lesser graphics.
Game Play: In my opinion the most important part of the game, this is the part of it that will either keep you hooked, or make you throw the game away. There is no point owning a game that is impossible to play due to control system that useless. This is often the area that either sells the game or banishes it to the cheap shelfs in gaming stores. Pro Evo, GT, Final Fantasy, WipeOut all were extremely succesful due to there near pefect gameplay, in all either the control method was top notch are there was so much to do within the game.
GTA 3 will be a prime example of game play superiority, the game should be endless with so much to do within the game, these are the types of games that are worth playing giving extreme value for money.
All of the above affect whether you buy a game, the best games are the ones that cotain both Good graphics and Gameplay. With the power of the PS2, and the sheer quality of the developers games will become better and better. Many people by games for different reasons, so the question is, which of the above effects whether you buy a game.
gameplay - the most important. the game can look like as realistic as anything yet if it's awkward to control and just unplayable then i'll return it straight back to the shops
graphics - at the same time though you can have great gameplay but if it looks like the person is a stick man running in treacle then it'll suck. you need gameplay and graphics to compliment each other
lastability - the game can be the best game ever made yet if it only lasts for an hour then i won't buy it. my minimum requirements for a game to last is around 10 hours though i do make exceptions (MGS) that's why sports games are better in this respect cause technically they can be played over and over and no one match or race is exactly the same
I sometimes look for graphics to see how good the game looks, I dont see the point in playing a game on the PS2 that looks like a SNES game, why???
The genre also plays a big part, I like my survival horrors and footie sims, so I would probably go for Resi rather than Alone in the dark, and go for Fifa and Pro Evo Soccer rather than Uefa Champions League and This is football. This is based on Pro Evo and Resi being made by succesful companies and having a good rep.
The manufacturer and name of the game also influence my choice in game, take SD3 JBI, its a THQ game, good rep, and also a Smackdown game, great two first games, awesome.
If I saw a game made by Konami and pitted against a game made by Ubi Soft, I would probably go for Konami. This proves games names and manufacturers have an influence on my game buying.
Great post.
Awesome.
I place all ten pieces in a bowl of three day old washing up. (Some detergent, loads of food particles, grease and other bad stuff).
I then drain and rinse, to leave the bits of paper.
I then attach each piece to a hedgehog, and let the little creature roam around for a few days.
I always must remember to tag the hedgehogs with a location tracker.
I then retrieve each hedghog.
I then pick one of the bits of paper at random. If that piece has the name of the game on it, and is completely readable (no parts of letters missing), then it is a good game.
I don't go for the graphics so much i like game that like in the reveiw looks good for example i saw Vigilante 8 in Play when it was just coming out as soon as i saw it i thought i want that game it just looked brilliant and it was ive had many brilliant games on that on my own and with friends the only thing that could make it better was it should of had 4 players but i went on instinct and i was right.
i really like GTA 3 and i think that this is because of the hipe more everyones said it's going to be really good any because of the pictures. so i dont think i care about the graphics but it is good when a game has got good graphics.
