1.) CONSOLE WARS.
Perhaps the most obvious place to start. It often seems that every person forms an automatic bond with the manufacturer of the console they first bought, and this bond shapes their gaming life. Sadly, this often leads to fanboy-ism.
You donít see this in other industries. You donít automatically love the creator of the first TV you got, no matter how great it was. So why on Earth do we get it with gaming? Because quite frankly, itís really beginning to wear me down. Is it the age of the market, perhaps? Eight year-olds will always be eight year-olds, no matter how much we wish they werenít, but I donít think they really represent the average gaming demographic. No matter how much I try, I simply canít explain why thereís such competitiveness between console owners.
I personally own a PC, DC, N64, PSX, GBC and GBA. Out of all of them I love my N64 the most, then my GBA. Does this automatically make me a Nintendo fanboy? Until recently I even worked for a Nintendo-based games site. I buy (or at least, used to buy) Nintendo-based games magazines. I regularly check out every single nugget of Nintendo-based information I can find. Why? Is there any sense to this?
I think so. Itís not because I hate rival hardware manufacturers; itís because I think that Nintendo make the best games - and hardware - out there. Itís consumerist logic, for Godís sake. I buy the product I find the best value for money, in much the same way as music-lovers will frequently follow their favourite band above all others. If I find it pleasing, I want to know more about it and Iím bound to want to buy the next thing the company produces. I donít do it because I hate Sony, Sega or Microsoft.
Hell, I even appreciate some of the things Nintendoís rivals come up with. Sega in particular have shown a commendable ability to fabricate pure joy, whilst Sony deserve full credit for bringing gaming to the masses. And yet I STILL think that Nintendo have shown the greatest consistent ingenuity, and as such are the most worthy of my hard-earned cash.

This is turning out to be way too long. Just tell me whether or not Iíve thought things through properly; tell me your views on the issue(s) and back them up with well-considered arguments; tell me what you agree with - but above all, tell me whether or not mine is the voice of reason. And if not, why.
I have, a Nes, Snes, N64, GB and a broken PSX.
My mum and dad started my off probably, buying me a nes, I think I have just bought nintendo's products because I liked them.
I don't hate Sony or Sega or even Microsoft, I was even thinking of trading in all my n64 gear for a PSX. I have always wanted a PSX but I didnt want to get rid of my beloved n64.
My mate had an n64, I played goldeneye and I was hooked, I HAD to have it. I HAD too. I saved up until "Yes!" I had the cash. I went out and bought it.
I have always found Nintendo's gear better... Hmm... Quality I could say.. Nah, dunno the word. But I just liked them.
So I don't hate the other company's I just don't have the money too buy their consoles :o)
so much so that i might get a gamecube.
(that's if i'll be allowed, seeing as i've got a ps2)
I persoanlly am a Sega Games Fan... a Fan of the games they made, not the Console. All I see in the actual console is a box with a few buttons on that you use to play the games, and thats how I've always seen conoles, it's the actual games that I'm into, and I've found that I've prefered Sega over others.... though I'm a big fan of the Arcade Range, the shorter games that you don't play on for hours on end.
I can't speek for others, but I think the games are more of a consideration that to which Console they are actually one....
Though TV's are different, as all they do is pick up the same signals, where as diff consoles play diff games.
