Now with a CD player it is simple, usually the more you pay, the better a system you get and the newer it is, the more up to date it will be, but in the games industry, this is not the case. This gives rise to debate, who is "better" than who? Who can make better games than who? Who can get the PS2 to do a sum faster than the other? The simple answer is, for the majority, does it even matter? Will Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft really benefit from having the best technical console on the market? Or will it be something else entirely which will define the success of each company? We have all seen various very cheap shots thrown from one company to another, and even more frequently people on this forum, arguing and leading to the inevitable bending of facts about what, and who does it better.
Everything is disected and analysed, right down to public announcements about the colour of the systems themselves, but what will make or break a system. A lot of people will claim that loyalties will help define a system, but that didn't really help Sega during their plight. Having the best technical system didn't help Sega or Nintendo overcome the Playstation in it's day. A long string of muck ups by the various deparments of SCE haven't had an impact on the success on the Playstation 2, so what is it that Sony have at the moment which no one else has? Is the success of Sony really just down to the strenght of the Sony brand name? Tey are an electronics giant who are regarded as the best at what they do, in many fields. The invented Floppy Disks, Mini-Discs, Walkmans etc. so has this helped them take a holding grasp of the games industry? I don't know myself, all I know is that I was very critical of the PS2 before it launched even in Japan, even more critical than I am about the Xbox, but as soon as I played an import version of Ridge Racer V and Street Fighter Ex3, I was hooked, and immediately pre-ordered the system, there was something that happened, which I can't explain, but whatever it is, Sony have it, in abundence, and no amount of whining will be able to change that.
:D
(Why do you think I have a Tesco's Wharfdale?)
but does
> anyone really buy Hitachi?
