The coming arrival of Grand Theft Auto 3 has plenty of games players drooling and the media world no doubt waiting with baited breath for yet another article on how video games will turn normal people into the next generation of Hitlers.

But looking beyond all the controversial stuff, this game is actually a great step in gaming. If your not clued up on what the game is about (like there really is anyone that doesn't know this game by now), then take a look at the review on this site. The amount of freedom that is given to the player is amazing, you can sit for hours playing without actually even touching the main missions within the game, you can just cause havoc for hours in a living breathing city. This adds no ends to the longevity with the amount you can do.

Like quite a few people, I'm looking forward to getting this game and with the thought of it in my head, I was also thinking of how it could possibly be made better from here. I think it'd be nice to have a larger emphasis on sniping/assassinations. Not like revolve the game around it as such, but look into it as a path for the player to take. Of course you get your chances here and there to do this now in GTA3. But it'd be nice to be able to go into buildings around areas where your target tends to pass through or hang around and be able to actually prepare yourself for the job rather than run at them in the street. Also, online play would be great with the improvements that have been made, or even things such as the i-link cable for PS2. Especially if the sniper improvements were included. As you and another player works through the game, you could be offered contracts which require you to beat up or even kill the other player. Or maybe you could have a co-operative mode where you can both plan things out together. For example, one of you could rob a bank while the other plays the role of a getaway driver. The player who isn't driving could then fire out of the car at any chasing police cars.

You could also work together in assassinations and other such missions. Plus imagine the havoc you could cause with 2 of you working together ;-))
Might even be nice to have the chance of running your own organisation, being able to expand your territory by destroying rivals. With street gangs being included in GTA3, it'd be nice to have gangs that are friendly towards your organisation and all too happy to do jobs for you. If you slip up in some way or another, the police could track you to your main HQ and try to surround the building in order to get you. Even once you have taken over a large amount of the city and the game should technically be over, you could still get new gangs popping up trying to take territory away from you or even trying to aggresively take you out completely. You could pay certain individuals money to get you info on your enemies whereabouts or who tried to recently take you out. If you don't wanna risk your own backside in an assassination attempt, you could hire someone to do it for you - possibly even another player who has their own organisation. This could also add a lot because you could keep up good relations with other gangs, helping eachother out, etc. But also, whos to say they won't backstab you - you could trust another player too much and they might suddenly turn on you and strike while your vulnerable.

Anyway, those are a few things that are going through my mind right now ;-)) Maybe I need less exposure to violent films and games.

If only top games makers came onto these forums huh ? ;-))
Either that or some Matrix style machine that can stuff skills into your head that you didn't previously know ;-))

That way I could use it to put my ideas into games ;-)) Unfortunatly I have tons of ideas but no clue when it comes to programming - the games industry tends to require both.
So I'm an unskilled dreamer ;-))

Even in the original GTA I would spend hours just trapsing around causing as much havoc as I could, Superbikes were lethal. Anyways it's always good to have freedom in a game as you say being able to do other things apart from the usual missions adds no end to longetivity and with a games like this I betting many people will be playing for ages without acually progressing in the game.

Weve all played a top racing game and we have all turned around and headed at the oncoming traffic at develishly high speeds, some of your ideas are good lets hope some of them come true eh?

Actually when I was younger I was really into Assassins and Mafia topics. When I had to cover Al Capone in History I did a massive amount of work - the teacher was pretty stunned at how much I knew ;-))

I know that sounds weird, but with Assassins in particular I used to like the different strategies shown in films and even true stories of how targets were taken out. The Yakuza (Japanese Mafia) used to really have me interested cause I loved Japan and the Yakuza had so much tradition it went by. I think I've really just been into strategy overall. I come up with plans in games like Command and Conquer rather than just send units over. Sometimes I find that my strategies are too beyond a games capabilities ;-))

Like say you were playing an Assassin game, you know those little peek holes some people have in their doors to see whos there before opening it ? That small little circle of glass - One thing to do would be to shoot the guy in the eye as he looks through it, but there aren't many games that allow you to shoot through doors ;-))

A lot of games have a set thing what you HAVE to do. GTA3 isn't so restricting which is great. When releasing games like this or including the stuff I said about before, I think complete freedom would be very important. Imagine how interesting it could be when you think of the different possibilities of taking out a target. You might think of one way while another player will come up with a completely different one. If your target is staying in a hotel room, one player might get inside the hotel, disguise himself as a member of staff and get close to the target that way, another might have noticed a good sniping position from a building opposite and try and take him out from there.

Some targets could have body guards which requires you to think the situation out more. Maybe a gun wouldn't be the answer, again, with the hotel idea, maybe you could get into the room as a member of staff complete with food trolley and well placed bomb.

Ok, probably sound like a sicko now but what I'm saying is no worse than the contents of many other games ;-)
But I think its this kind of freedom that will make things such as the longevity of games skyrocket.

It's always cool to walk on the wild side.
Your ideas sound good - the words of a natural born gangster.

Freedom to do what you feel like in these games is part of the fun.

I've not played GT3 so I wouldn't know but I like the sound of doing jobs your own way and just generally doing what you feel like.

I think that a secret agent game would be good where you use your own initiative in order to travel round a city trying to track a conspiracy and there's several ways of doing it.

It would be hard because you might miss cluess and things only happen at certain times.

It would take most people several goes to come close to succeeding but it would be a very interesting experience in gaming.
