Just downloaded Half Life for the Dreamcast. Yes before anyone asks I have downloaded it. Not selling it though (don't know anyone who has a Dreamcast) and because it was never released I aren't scamming Valve or Sierra. Anyway, that aside I am literally stumped! I was hoping that the controls would be like most PC ports or FPS on either the Xbox or Cube but its not. Not only does it have to be played using One Analog Stick or D-Pad but every single function found on the PC game actually has a function on the Dreamcast controller.
At first I was thinking back to my N64 and Goldeneye, after all that utilised a very good control system with only one stick. I trauled through the control layout only to find that I can not use R + Direction to aim?! AT the moment I am sat with a control layouy just trying to figure out what the hell I can do to get a decent setup.
So far I have to hold B + Direction to move in that particular direction. Then when I want to look up or down I have to let go of B and use the directions to look up or down. Strafing is done via the L + R triggers and I think A is the acition button. By pressing Down on the D-Pad you can toggle between crouch and stand modes but at times this is becoming very confusing because you have to hold B to use the 'Shift' functions on the PC version.
Customising the controls is a near impossibility as there are too many functions to fit onto two sets of buttons. The shift function doubles up every button on the Pad so you really need to use the Movement in conjunction with Shift + any button. With the Dreamcast forum getting more and more derelict every day I just wondered if any of you ave found a decent control setup for the game. I am hoping to get a decent setup as with the Rumble functions and much improved audio it plays and looks better on the Dreamcast.
Any ideas on where to start?
Is it complicated?
Hate sitting up right using a mouse and keyboard waiting for it to crash.
Perhaps PC is the way to go then, even though I'm a console man.
I'm getting Half-Life for PS2 soon, should be good.
