Schools over (GCSE's done and dusted) and I should hear about a few jobs this week. Hopefulyl I will be starting next week and after tax I will come out with a bare minimum of £150 a week. First priority is to pick up a PS2 along with Devil May Cry, Tenchu 3 and Victorious Boxers. After that I will have to cut down as I am saving for a Widescreen TV. However I will probably pick up Vice City and GTA 3 once again. 100% GTA 3 first time around before I sold my PS2 but I have seen it for £9.99 new so I will get it for the sake of my collection. Looking for the lead which will hook it up to my Dolby Digital Amp at the moment. I know that PS2 games don't run in Dolby Digital but I can still get 4 channel surround or just plain Dolby Surround.

Just thought I would let you know that I will have a PS2 again in a few weeks. All multi format games will be purchased for my Xbox or GameCube so I am sticking to top title exclusives only. Just thought I would let you know :)

Yes but its better than my TV speakers so I can't wait to play it again through my Surround Sound. Thats what I am getting at.

Researched the audio side of the PS2 a bit more. Not as impressive as what some of the Xbox games can do but with games like Devil May Cry which relies heavily on the up beat rock track to get the adrenaline pumping I am sure through a decent set of speakers I could be in for some great times. I did complete DMC before I sold my PS2 but I enjoyed it immensly and I can't wait to play it through again.

The new Led Zeppelin DVD is a perfect demonstration of the differences. The DD soundtrack is good, the DTS one is awesome. The bass is so much richer.

To be honest you can't tell if you just sit and watch the film. If you watch it a few times (like I have with Blade 2) then you begin to notice subtle differences. Thanks for the link I will check it out now.

DTS doesn't necessarily mean 5.1 channels though - there are lower-spec versions, which would probably sound worse than DD5.1

As you say, I suppose it depends who produces the disc and exactly what version they use.

Better sound than Dolby Digital 5.1? Not in every case. The Blade 2 soundtrack is better in DD than DTS and although I only noticed slight differences every review I read confirmed the same thing. The Gladiator DTS mix is the only one I have heard so far which is slightly better than the DD mix. Depends what advantages a company uses with it.

DTS isn't a modified DD5.1 track, it's a different, competing format.

It uses lower compression and higher data rate, giving superior sound to DD5.1

Compare the PS2 DVD player to either the Xbox or Stand alone DVD player and you will see the differences. The Xbox DVD player is very good but the console itself makes too much noise so I will stick with a decent multi region player. Anyway thats not what I am getting it for.

Yes, Vice City has DTS sound. So does Codemasters new Indy Car game. I understand DTS have waived the fees for the development package for a period of a year to encourage companies to make use of it.

PS2 playback is actually very respectable when you get proper cables. The new model PS2 wil kick it's a** though... progressive scan and a proper remote and all that.

Brilliant! As usual the careful and intuitive production that Freeola puts into everything it sets out to do, I am delighted.
Wonderful...
... and so easy-to-use even for a technophobe like me. I had my website up in a couple of hours. Thank you.
