I was just reading a post about downloads and resumes and was woundering what people are using and why.

I'm using FlashGet at the moment, it has some cool features including a throttle so you can reserve bandwidth for browsing whilst you download, but some times it stalls when downloading, starting and stopping gets it going again.

So whos using what? and whats good and whats bad about it? does it sneakin some spyware when you install it? it it just bad?

I know of the common ones like flashget, getright, gozilla, but what others are out there that are worth considering? any with remote features or anything else thats cool?

I use Gozilla on a regular Modem connection, it slows the hell out of regular browsing ... you may be able to alter this, but I didn't care and so didn't look.

I use it so I can download in segments and not tie up the phone line or keep the machine on for god knows how long....

... I'd recomend Gozilla.

I got broardband, and I still use a download manager, IE only lets you download four files at a time, or thats what i found anyway.

Flashget also splits the files into seperate streams, and gives you information on each on, it also looks for alternative locations for the download, and gives you a pretty graph.

One other feature that I haven't seen in other DM's is the drop zone, it allows you to highlight a bunch of file in your browser then drag them to the drop zone where it then puts them into the download list.

I think thats pretty cool.

I use Go!Zilla after a few people said that it is good. So far, I have downloaded about 6 files of 15mb+ and have had no problems at all with it. They all had an average dowload speed of just over 4.2 k/s and it hasn't conked out on me at all so far.

I have to say that I'm really impressed with it.

Nope, no dodgy advertising thingys.

And the download accelerator is the same as the DAP 5 which ZP is talking about.

Does it have one of those dodgy advertising schemes in it? I hate them.

Download Accelerator - www.downloadaccelerator.com

Free download manager which splits the downoad into a few chunks and downloads them all at once, the faster your connection the more chunks it can do. Even benifits broadband users and is definately worth getting a hold of.
