Basically this whole post is about Boy games Vs Toy games... GT3 and Final Fantasy type games versus funny, cute and well... Nintendo games.

I know you all have an opinion on this, but being the Topic-maker I get the first say...

My opinion is that both are a great asset to gaming... heaven knows that Wipeout brought gaming to the masses purely because the geek image that was the epitome of gaming beforehand was 'Wiped Out' (:D) for good!

GT3 will no doubt have sold some Playstation 2's, and in fact if I can quote SR's 'PS2 Colour Explosion' topic from this weeks Upwire:

"Kudos must go to Sony for shifting 20 million PS2s - it was only six months ago that Sony announced they had sold 10 million - that means the PS2 is selling three times as fast as the original PlayStation." - The News Monkey

20 million?!... not bad... I really do think that GT3, along with the ever-expanding library of PS2 titles, had a lot to do with that. But while the 'hip' Playstation 2 setup is popular for some, it isn't everyone°«s bag, and there are just as many people out there, if not more, who like different games!

These legions of people are of course: Blatantly Biased Nintendo Fans!... no, I°«m joking, but there are gamers who prefer more of a light-hearted aura to their games, they prefer games like Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, Mario This Mario That and Mario Put a Monkey Down my Pants! Not to mention the plethora of cuddly games from shortsighted multi-platform developers and of course Rare.

But while it's fun to take the mickey out of Nintendo fans, we, and especially me being one, have to see where they're coming from... for a start the games are funnier... I mean you can't really compare Conker's Bad Fur Day to a Playstation game like say Silent Hill. Silent Hill isn't funny... seeing your friend wet himself maybe when he watches the intro, but playing the game isn't quite as funny as Conker's antics in CBFD!

Other Nintendo games like Mario Kart, and Mario Tennis have quite a funny side to them... as well as being solid well rounded titles, they both offer hours of fun and laughter with the characters cute voices playing quite a big part. Compare these titles to GT3 and Virtua Tennis and you see where i'm coming from!

The Dreamcast had quite a decent mixture of 'Boy Games' and 'Toy Games'... There were games like Code veronica, and other light-hearted games like Chu Chu Rocket and the like. But when it comes down to it, people either prefer one or the other... and it isn't about maturity either - Some older adults buy Nintendo consoles and games to bring their children up smiling and laughing instead of them holding a Resident Evil type sawn-off shotgun to their parents heads because they didn't get normal Ribena instead of Toothkind! - Scary!

Personally I prefer Toy games... I have to be serious enough throughout the day at work without having to come home and not laugh at a videogame! Games make me laugh... that is a big reason why I play them... so to me, the Zelda announcement was a good one...!

Okay, so now it's your turn... your views will be much appreciated and saying what you like and why would be nice!

Thanks for reading,

Game

The average Nintendo game has a fair bit more pulse than GT3.

Why?

I think you'd better read my post titled "So realistic, it's lost it's realism".

If you want a really pulsating racing game then F-Zero X is a better example.

I have Red Alert 2.

My plan is always this:

Be American, that way you get free GIs. Get loads of GIs and deploy them round your base. These little dudes are unbeatable in numbers. Also, you need a few air defenses, but not many.

Next build absolutely loads of Prism tanks, 2 airbases and 8 jets. Once you have your jets and 10 prism tanks, send off the jets to destroy the target's construction yard. When that's destroyed, send in you tanks in a swarm. You may want a rocket IVF for air support. The tanks will basically just destroy everything themselves. Job done, never fails.

I would be nowhere todays if they hadn't brought about those loving games known only as stratergy. Personally I find them to be the best availible games that are around and offer a long amount of gameplay and it's different every time.

Age of Empires 2, Red Alert 2 and Commandos 2, the best that there is around today. It's not just go in and blast your guns, it's plot, plan and then action. You have to understand every movement and understand what they're planning to do next, then stop it.

"Boys and their toys"?

Me, well, I prefer my games to have a bit more pulse than your average Nintendo game. I just completed a 2 hour frag-fest of Quake 3 Revolution (non-stop, notched up 469 frags on The Longest Yard with 3 "hardcore" bots) as practise for the Quake 3 tourney at school next week. I think I'm going to have to take some tranquillisers to get to sleep!

Me and my multiplayer - inseparable!

I've done the odd topic around multiplayer but nothing that raves over the masterfulness of Splitscreen 4 player games.

Something to look forward to is when the Gamecube goes broadband.
My multiplayer will have another dimension (and I'll shoot you all in the head!)

You know, everyone says that Nintendo is all Toy games but I think that it's the only one that has the decent balance of both.

Nintendo make the best "Toy" games around with Sega following close behind.
You can see many of these games in the line up.

However, they've also third party support which supply more than enough "Boy" games.
Resident Evil for one, Soul Calibre, Perfect Dark...

The Gamecube seems to strike the best balance between fun and "mature".

That's why for me it has the best future.

Along with the fact that it is by far the best forthcoming multiplayer machine, but that's another story...
