I've got a problem with my PS2. Whenever a disc is put into the machine the game starts fine but when I have been playing a game for a while the PS2 starts to make weird noises and the screen starts to freeze and the game in a way gets delayed. Has anybody got any ideas why this is happening? It isn't the disc read error because there isn't a message that comes up on screen saying 'this is a disc error....'
It could still be disc-reading problems, even though you're not getting the error that says so. The disc drive is the only part of the machine that can make a noise, as it's the only moving part (apart from the tray and cooling fan of course). It certainly sounds like the sort of 'freezing' you get when a disc can't be read properly, anyway.
Try running a DVD lens cleaner through it, and check your instruction manual for the Diagnostics section and run that - both could help.
If that doesn't cure the problem, your only option is to call Sony on 08705 998877. If it's still under warranty, they will repair or replace it free of charge. Otherwise, they will charge you for it.
