My PS2, like many other unfortunate people owning one of the earlier playstation2 models, was experiencing symptoms of DRE syndrome (Disc Read Error). My PS2 would only read dvd formatted discs and not cd formatted discs (no more virtua tennis 2). After 6 months of leaving it alone thinking my PS2 would never be cured (i couldnt be arsed with returning it-warrenty ran out) I decided to see if anyone on the net had found a cure. I tried the usual stuff-vacumming the thing and using that diagnosis thing, but they failed. However on one forum someone said u could repair your PS2 by increasing the voltage going to the cd drive. There are two silver screws inside the PS2 that controls the voltage to the CD and DVD drives. By rotating the CD screw clockwise until the CD drives begins to work again. Having nothing to lose i tried it and it worked straight away and my PS2 is now cured from DRE, it was dead easy too(saved me £60). I hope everyone else with this problem can listen to this! Theres a forum site on the net with instructions on how to do the "surgery" but cant remember wot it is. Go to yahoo and type in Playstation2 disc read error- itll give u the site---im going to play virtau tennis 2 now!!!yay

That sounds well dodgy. I take it you did it by tiny measures?
