Y'see my crusty old AMD 750mhz is showing it's age as it cranks away with it's 96mb of RAM, failing DVD/CDR combo drive, and ancient ATI RAGE 128 card. And I want to play the new Tomb Raider and Half Life 2 :)

At the end of the day you can say you built your own pc, or your mate did...
But as you said, monitor, keyboard and os do cost alot.
Computer system costs are not made high by hardware, but software. It's all them n0rty licenses.
