*clears throat*
Come to i17.
If anyone's managed to avoid my ramblings about it so far, it's a massive LAN party (looks set to be around 1000 gamers this time) held in Newbury racecourse. I go along with a load of my mates, and this time we're stealing Grix too, and I want as many of you there as possible. Doesn't matter if you're not in a clan or not a hugely avid gamer, it's just great fun.
It's 」70 for 4 days, held over August bank holiday weekend (22-25), and completely defies the image of gamers being sad lonely people who sit on their own for days on end - everyone is chucked in a massive hall, sorted in to game areas by clan, with tournaments and general other contests; Drinking races, football matches, cockfighting (oh yes..no harm to animals involved)..
Upstairs, there's...well, a biig bar area :D Dominos deliver pizza to seats, you can camp outside or sleep under your pc, and..that's it really. Be there. Throw any questions here, but most importantly, give in to 4 days of really random fun - honestly, gaming goes out the window after the bar opens up ;)

Turning up and wandering around for a couple of hours not knowing anyone was no fun in itself, but getting challenged and beaten on Halo by what appeared to be a 12 year old topped it all off :O( it was my first go though). I've had fun at a lot of netmeets in the past, by and large these were mostly away from computers, if you can get yourself in a group where you can enjoy yourself at I10 I suppose it'd be a barrel of laughs, but none of my mates turned up until Saturday, whence they took me back to Bath with them for a birthday party \o/
I might still make an appearance I17 though, plenty of people are promising to be present :o
Having said all that, it's not impossible I might be at I17 (or whichever one is the next one), as a group of people I'd very much like to meet again have invited me. The only problem is cash, or lack of it :O(
I love LAN arenas - We had one at our local bowling alley, which had like 25 computers connected together.
Shame that you have to bring your own PC to this event - My computer is ancient.
Half-Life: Counterstrike
Quake 3 Arena & main mods (e.g. Rocket Arena)
Half-Life: Team Fortress Classic
Half-Life and other Mods (e.g. Day of Defeat, FLF, VS)
Unreal Tournament
Tribes & Tribes 2
Quake 2
Quake World
Allegiance
Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force
Red Faction
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Jedi Knight II
Medal Of Honour
And anything which proves to be popular, they'll set another one up for (Armagedtron, Soldat). Can always host a server off your own pc, or even take a server along to be put in the server farm just to host matches. Many options..
Can't remember whether or not I mentioned, the event is run by the nice chaps at www.multiplay.co.uk, have a look at the site for more info.
I like smaller lans too, Local ones with groups of people are great fun, and I wish I'd got to go to a StratLan when they were still running, but nothing can beat the i-series for sheer chaos :D See you there, I hope.
:)
So, all being well, look out for Uncle Albert at i17! :D
