Exactly!

I would have thought that Nintendo would have used it first. Maybe for a Pokemon, or Zelda game.

Afterall it's "their" technology, so I would have thought that they would want to get it working first.

Well, there's a link between them all then, surely?

The link configuration may be different, so you may be right in that there is an inventor as far as the particular cable is concerned. Of course, it may also be an adaption of existing technology with a different plug on the end.

My point is that it's hardly a major technological breakthrough designed solely by Nintendo for use with the GC and GBA.

But we're getting away from YH's main point, which I believe was that it's surprising that Sega are making the first major use of it, and not Nintendo themselves.

I'll refer you back to the dictionary deffinition I quoted. Pioneer and inventor are interchangable words.

And there is zero link between the inventing of docking stations, VMUs and the GBA/GC link cable. They all allow two way flow between two electronic devices, but then so does a parallel cable, or a USB cable. So does a twisted copper wire. However, these are all totally seperate inventions with differing inventors.

All I really wanted to point out was that Sega were using the technology before Nintendo.

I don't know why, but I just assumed that Nintendo would make use of the link up first....

Doctors don't invent robotic keyhole surgery machines, but they are the first to use it and are called "pioneers".

Sega are pioneering this technology. Nintendo invented it. Difference.

Yes, *if* - but they didn't.

Sega had the VMS a couple of years ago, which is the same principle; but even they didn't invent it.

Presumably the 'pioneers' were whoever invented the portable/docking-station computers.

I know, I was just messing about with the Sega thing.

But it does surprise me that Nintendo haven't got there first....

So when Flemin gcame up with penicillin was the pioneer the first person treated with it?

Main Entry: 1pi…o…neer
Pronunciation: "pI-&-'nir
Function: noun
2 a : a person or group that originates a new line of thought or activity or a new method or technical development

If Nintendo invent the link, they are the pioneers.

Oh, and it's been known for ages that Sega are giving up with Dreamcast. Not only do they no longer manufacture it, but they won't be making any new games for it after March 2002.
