bravo have just started a new show called game pad, which is ok . but its just not enough. if they want to dedicate channels to subjects like jobs and shopping. then im sure they can dedicate a channel to the multi million pound industry that is video games
I really don't know what to say,
Thank you SR.
They have film reviews with Johnathon Ross, but no video game shows, all the bbc delivered is that ceefax page which is only updated once a week, teletext has a daily page (digitiser) so why can't the bbc?
There has been a lack of quality programmes on the subject with most of the terrestrial examples being on in the middle of the night :bits as an example is good in its own way (I am not talking about the fact that it is hosted b 3 women but they show a lot of in game footage which is lacking from games advertising).
I remember the days when you could watch master blaster at about 7:40 on the big breakfast, bad influence on itv and gamesmaster at tea time during the week (possibly on thursdays but they changed their on air times a few times).
There was a show on the bbc once but that did not last long I think there was a little flying robot voiced by Johnny Ball.
The most recent addition to the video game tv programmes is the pointless documentary e.g lara croft, the ps2 launch.....
The news papers coverage is more laughable in that they only write about how bad pokemon is, how contraversial a game is and that it must be banned for the safety of the children even though the game has an 18 rating and the children in question could not buy the games if they wanted to, storys like games made my child violent or other "newsworthy" storys, and the general missinformed articles like the ps2 is here and it will make your childs older system obsolete (not much bias there then) or every child wants a gba this christmas- while this hype is good for the games companies it is not good for the parents.
I have seen children pestering their parents to buy them games in the shops, now if the parents were better informed by the media they might have a better chance of buying games that will keep the "kids" occupied for longer and would not have to blindly buy what may be rubbish games that will last the children 5 minutes or any games which maybe usuitable for the children.
Now, I don't have sky so I haven't seen any of the games programes that are on any of the channels so I can't realy comment about them other than they fill a niche in the market which is poorly representedon tv.
So come on bbc make a games show at an accessible time slot that people can watch, but if it involves Carol Smilie/Voorderman then I would not bother.
