I guess I'd better explain what the heck I'm chuffing well on about before you all get bored and start reading something else, hey?
Comin to next generation consoles (definitely PS2 and GAMECUBE, not sure about Xbox) are a couple of Snowboarding games. SSX Tricky, and Dark Summit.
SSX Tricky is just a racing game, with tricks to perform too. I say 'just' but we all know it's much more than that in terms of gameplay.
Dark Summit is allegedly a 'snowboarding adventure'. You have to progress through a number of different levels to get through the game. Some of these will be simply races, such as getting away from the evil ski patrol or something, other levels may involve more complex tasks. All in a kind of downhill manner, I guess, or it could become quite tedious trying to get back up the mountains!
So do you think the snowbaording adventure idea could work? Or would you rather stick with the basic racing and tricks of the SSX games?
I assume Dark Summit may be a little like the skiing level on The World Is Not Enough, as you had to blow up various targets on the way down the mountain, and take out various enemies.
If the game is simply this stand alone adventure, I wouldn't be too sure of how successful it could be, however, I believe that it does include a standard racing mode for multiplayer fun, and a number of tricks can also be performed!
So, Dark Summit, an exciting new game, or a run of the mill snowboarding game with a 'story mode'?
I can't imagine a 'need for speed' snowboarding game.
I like 1080* because it's on the N64, you can go pretty much anywhere and bounce off the walls beside you while going 120kph! + you can jump on your opponant's head, which is quite amusing.
Did anyone try a forward flip(just hold forward on the analogue stick) with a normal person while jumping off the cliff on......err, the second to last level? :D great fun.
Looks good, as good as SSX does. Seems to be that you go down courses as you do in other snowboarding games, but knock down gates that are in your way, go on some kind of train track looking thing.
There was one scene which gave you a task of getting away from the ski patrol, and had you snowboarding away from these guys. Basically a race in which you must never get overtaken.
Still looks like a standard snowboarding game with a few bells and whistles, not sure that it's enough to be genre defining yet!
SSX Tricky will be essential!
> Even if you hate snowboarding, I bet you'll still like SSX :-)
Very true. I have never liked snowboarding games, not even 1080, and I was initially going to get Timesplitters for my one PS2 game I could afford. However, when I saw the video for it with PSM2, I was captivated by the undeniable coolness of it and had to buy it. And now, nearly a year one, it's still one of the best games I have on any format (Just being beaten by Sonic 3, and it's also one that I play most often.
Now, onwards with Hiro's trick book...
