Who tells the truth ? Amongst many, people of the clergy and game reviewers. Who tells lies ? Amongst many, politicians and game reviewers.

Peoples opinions can always differ and I am completely prepared to accept that. However, the facts about games should remain the same for everyone. For example, The Bouncer is a game with divided opinion. How can I decide to buy this game or not ? As with lots of games, some think it is great and other tell me that I will be bored within an hour. What does not help me decide is things like this ?

Quote 1 from a special reserve reviewer.
ìThere may well be an impressive range of moves available to each bouncer, plus plenty more to earn, but when it is possible to finish the game using 3-4 what is the point?î

Quote 2 from another special reserve reviewer.
ìNow perhaps the worst feature of this game was the game play, a very very limited selection of moves which were little more than a choice of kicks and punched and the movement around the area you were fighting in was poor.î

Both reviewers advised me not to buy this game but which is it ? An impressive range of moves or a very very limited selection of moves ?

I do not write many reviews as I do not buy hundreds of games. I want to buy games that I know I am not wasting my money on. When I read reviews, I want to know what is really going on. I read the words of the reviewers, check their other reviews to see if they like the same games as me then I make a choice. But surely it is better for all when the person who reviews the game describes the facts correctly. Maybe I enjoy games like ìThe Bouncerî and I want to buy it but I now have no idea whether the fighting system has lots of moves or none. Does ìimpressiveî mean as many combos as Killer Instinct Gold or Streets of Gold (if anyone can remember that!) ? Comparisons are always welcome.

I do not write fantastic reviews, so no need to tell me but I try not to confuse people with what I say. All I ask is that you take the time to read what you are telling us.

I realise that you are always going to get some people telling me that my favourite game is pants. In fact, having read some of the reviews of Silent Hill 1, I know that some people don't agree with me. However, one guy pointed out the fact that you have to cover a lot of ground etc., you can only do certain actions if you are in exactly the right place. I accept this as these are parts of the game which he does not enjoy but they are the truth.

And that is what I want to hear about ! I have a family which makes it difficult to get TV time anyway. I donít have time to rent lots of games. Tell me what is good and what is not but tell me the truth !

The key to trusting a reviewer is checking out games that they love and seeing if you agree.

OK, so you're not going to agree all the time but if most of your feelings are matched by a reviewer then it's better than nothing.

We all like different things but if a reviewer knows what he/she is talking about then the facts should shine through.

Let's face it, if someone said that GT3 has average graphics and is generally poor nobody would believe that.
Someone out there might actually think it though....

In the mean time - YOU CAN TRUST ME!!!

I've not played The Bouncer, but I think I would like it. Many people say it's no good, but it reminds me of Sword Of The Beserk on Dreamcast - sure it's short and little too simplistic, but it looks like a dream - like a mini work of art. I'd say follow your instincts.

I agree with you totally when you say: "There is no replacing the excitement of taking home a new game without having seen a screen shot."

Agreed Nomad.

There is no replacing the excitement of taking home a new game without having seen a screen shot (at the moment, I am trying to stay away from Silent Hill 2 until it comes out !).
But, with most games around 35 to 40 quid, we would be doing ourselves favours to give accurate advice. I will be being the Bouncer anyway as I like that type of game. It would be nice to know a little bit more than the description on the back of the box. For people who do not play lots of games or do not have much money, we might be talking them into buying or turning away.

One man's cool gameplay is another man's dead dog.

I never, I repeat, NEVER trust reviews. I've lost count of the times I've read a review that has slated a game only to find that when I play the game I like it, and vice-versa.

Digitiser gave Crazy Taxi 2 a score of 2 out of 5 saying the cities were really boring and the mini games were excellent. At the time of reading this review I had been playing CT2 for weeks, and I knew what they were saying to be utter and complete bollards!

I'd say never trust any review. The reason I'm still interested in games is the fact that I never really know for sure if I'm gonna like a game or not. There's only way to find out - by playing it for yourself.
