Surely there can be nothing that causes me to lose all power? To fall weak to the knees, to do anything anyone says?
It's two things. Both are comprised of two words.
"Limited Edition." And "Box Set."
Gahhh... Makes me petrified just thinking about it.
I was walking through Tesco's today when I had a humilating panic attack as I saw about five new DVD box sets that I really wanted... and I knew damn knew that I couldn't get them.
But they don't just trickle out, they all bloody come along at once. Godfather trilogy, Superman, Simpsons... all the sodding Planet of the Apes films! We could have a Planet of the Apes NIGHT!
I think the first time I ever really discovered my weakness was when I saw the James Bond video box set advertised on tv... HMV, I think. Their website was up and running before the ad had finished.
A journey sixty miles to HMV followed closely after, Christmas was coming, and I had been grasped by the iron fist of temptation. You get all you want, for more money than buying them seperatly...
BUT YOU GET A BOX TO KEEP THEM IN!
Imagine how helpful that would be when you go to Uni!
It was still the best present I've ever had, mind. :0)
But nevertheless, I was caught. No longer could I call myself a substandard Bond fan. I had a BOX SET.
And now, my mind is getting ready for perhaps the greatest event ever in the history of mankind. Buying these Spagetti Western trilogys and other limited edition stuff is only the warmup.
I'm getting ready for the Star Wars Box Set.
Yeah. You know it's coming. I can feel it's presence. And then, when it does, you'll hear millions of people cry out at once.
For I have forseen it. It's not only going to contain all six films, it's going to be:
Limited
Edition
And people aren't going to be able to get it. It's going to cost a bomb too.
So... do you also feel the grip of box sets? That irristible irge to grab that display case off the shelf and run to the counter?
Are you also waiting desperatly for the box set of the Gods?
I for one, will be sleeping outside Woolies for days.
I spent hours in MVC a while ago choosing between the one disc £16 Magnolia and the two disc bonus extravaganza priced at £20... Yes, being the marketing sucker that I am, I went and got the more expensive one. Shame on me.
Oh, and another thing to add to the list.. cd digipacks! You know the albums that come in the limited edition card cases and that have one bonus track on which you pay through the nose for. Plus the damn things tear and break so easily. Yes I own many digipacks too. Why am I so susceptable to the these cheap advertising ploys, I still haven;t watched the second disc of Magnolia! But I keep telling myself that it was worth it... really it was...
Hopefully I will be able to go shopping again soon and get the stuff I want, e.g a ferris buellers day off video, the wedding singer sound track and some other stuff.
But first I will be trying to get some I.D.
My friend on the other hand is different he has to have the latest box set, it all started with the Scream box set then he went through some Only Fools and Horses and other tv show ones. He too will no doubt go in search of the Star Wars collection, just how much will he spend?
