Normal people like you and me donít really buy music. We ìacquireî music from various places, be it MP3s, ìDave with his CD-writerî or Big Mick daan tha maarket. Also, itís only singles that count towards the chart. Well weíre not stupid enough to buy singles, because a single cost £4 and you get one track, a remix and the radio edit. However for £12 you can buy the album, which will contain that track and at least 10 other great numbers. It just makes sense, and maybe thatís why the album chart is in a bit better shape. Therefore, proper music like Blink 182, Bad Religion, Offspring and Soul Fly never does extremely well in the charts.
So, who makes teeny-pop so successful? Itís all the 12-17 year old girls who have more money than sense and not enough things to spend it on, thatís who. Donít believe me? Hang around the pop section of Virgin or HMV and see who actually buys the stuff. I bet at least 90% of them will be girls, and another thing: A lot of those girls will also have the album, but they buy the new singles anyway. Why? God only knows, but itís apparent that theyíre the only ones. Hell, Iíve heard that even Victoria Beckham doesnít like the dross she produces, but itís what sells.
What really gets to me though, is that these super-star pop acts have absolutely no talent at all. Whatsoever. Really, they donít. They donít play their own instruments, they donít write their own songs, some of them canít even sing live! If you gave any of the Heresy singers a guitar, some sheet music and told them to come back in 2 weeks with a song theyíd just look at you blankly, and the less said about Sophie Ellis Bextorís appalling performance at One Big Sunday the better. Ever wondered why they have to have fancy dance routines while theyíre on stage? Itís to distract the audience from realising that theyíre not really doing anything apart from singing in tune. I bet this must leave proper artists like Coldplay and U2 a bit miffed, because all their talent is going to waste. Why bother, is all these other acts are getting away with just singing, sometimes not even that.
Oh God, Bob the Builderís come on...
> So, TBN, you hang around HMV looking at the young girls?

That's disgusting, you should be ashamed of yourself, Robin!
Yessss... that'll do nicely as a cover up... MUAH HA HA HA
Err... Am I still typing? Bollards...

Therefore,
