Huh? Why?
I've seen raves for Snatch etc, but not one mention for this one.
It beats the face of the other Brit-Crime Flicks that clog our video-shelves and multiplexes, but it reeks of pure class.
Plot?
Ray Winstone is an ex-villain living in Spain with his wife and mate.
He has a nice life, relaxed and happy.
Then Ben Kingsley shows up to get him back for one last job.
That's it.
I know it sounds cliche, but it's not.
Jonathan Glazer (radiohead video bloke) takes an excellent script and adds visuals you ain't never seen before.
From the opening with a boulder almost killling Winstone to the most unusual heist you'll ever witness on film.
Winstone is everything you don't expect from him.
Kind, gentle, loving and quiet. Not the typical "'ard maaaaan" he usually plays.
Ben Kingsley owns this movie though.
Forget Ghandi, Schindler's List etc, he is not that here.
He is a violent, psychopathic animal, incapable of small talk and prone to extremely terrifying verbal attacks.
Sexy Beast wins the most profanities in a film ever, even over Glengarry Glen Ross.
Not a lot of violence, but what there is?
Nasty, shows the repercussions and it's bloody. No simple shooting and walking-away.
Performances are spot-on, everyone comes away with honours on this one.
And if that ain't enough for you?
A 7ft tall Rabbit with an Uzi. See, NOW you're interested.
I said it before and I'll say it again:
Guy Ritchie? Call Jonathan Glazer "Master", cos you just got owned.
> I'll do it tomorrow. Has anyone seen Way of the Gun? Quite good.
I've seen that one, not that I'm old enough though of course. If you wanna watch a good un then watch Men Of Honour, I wrote a review about it a bit of the way down. Or there is 'The Gift' or 'The Watcher' which were both pretty sinister.
