If you've been a PC gamer then you may understand where I'm coming from.
Two years ago I bought an AMD K6-2 450, 64mb Ram, Ati Rage Pro Chip, 15" monitor.
In those two years I've bought a Voodoo 3 2000 graphics card, a 17" monitor, numerous games, Logitech Wingman mouse, new speakers, Microsoft Sidewinder Force Wheel increased RAM to 256mb.
That lot probably cost me around £400 or £500.
SCARY.
Then recently it became obvious that my processor was the next thing and quite frankly I couldn't be bothered to spend another penny. Every 6 months it would be something else that could do with upgrading.
That's why I firmly believe that console gaming is the way ahead.
Buy a console, buy the accessories and buy the games simple. The onus is on developers to get the most out of the hardware instead of simply relying on the gamers to make sure that their PC has the latest graphics card etc to take advantage of the game's abilities.
Now that Microsoft have joined the market I think it tells us all that PC's are not ideal for gaming anymore.
Why have a 1.5 ghz processor when something much less powerful can produce graphics that are appearing on today's consoles?
The Xbox in console terms is an absolute monster and yet it's processor (750 I believe) is nothing compared to the latest PC's.
PC's are a pain, drivers, compatibility etc and consoles offer a specific solution for gamers.
OK, so the PC will always be more up to date but not everyone can afford it. Now that the PS2 and Xbox are coming with hard drives and the ability to go online etc for around 1/4 of the price of a PC gamers need to think hard about what to go for.
I'm not going to upgrade anymore, I've got my PS2 and when it's at the end of it's 3 - 5 year lifespan I'll be buying whatever the best console is on the market then.
Rant over :D
Oh, PC gamers may now rant back (remembering that I was once like you....)
this is all have to say.
> I just download an emulator from the internet and I can play them easily as one
> two three!
I'll be seriously surprised if you've got a PS2 emulator!
Also, yes with Hard Drives etc coming out for consoles they are becoming more like PC's but that's not a bad thing.
This way consoles are becoming more like PC's but still without most of the upgrade hassles and cost.
I agree totally, with a pc you have to constantly upgrade but consoles are becoming similar. Hard Drives, expansion packs, so maybe pc gaming is not out.
> Agreed. Actually, in order to run GT3 on a PC, you need probably need to spend
> around £1,200 on it. So, a PS2 is a really good bargain.
Exactly, it really is just a matter of expense. PC gaming can be superb - the best in fact but it's just too expensive.
As mentioned here, a decent graphics card costs more than the PS2!!!!
boooo!
