There's rumors flying about that Sony will launch the Playstation 3 in Japan as early as 2003!!!!!!!!

These things usally go in 5 year cycles so does this mean they aren't confident with the PS2 or what??

The PS3 is a long way off, the amount of money Sony has put into PS2 would just be a waste if it was to be released soon. And then they would have to start again with the new one.

Yeah I reckon its gonna be another 5 years or so till PS3 comes out...

Whether Ps2 flops or is a hit after all next gen consoles are lauched the Ps3 would not be released that early. The Ps2 would not die that fast and easily. It will be the way Sony fought hard to keep the Psx on the market even after tha launch of the dreamcast. So I think the Ps3 will not be launched earlier than 5 years from now, whatever happens to the Ps2. This is because by then we will know whether their will be an xbox2 or gamecube2 and the Ps3 will have to compete with these consoles not the current 128 bit next gen consoles.

We will begin to hear about the official PS3 info in 2003-4. The console will come out between mid 2004 and mid 2005.

A load of nonsense.
For one the main processor is designed by IBM and will not be ready for mass production until late 2004- 2005.

It better be a load of rubbish, otherwise i will be very very annoyed.

I did not buy a PS2 for something better to come out only 2 years later.
